We have about 1/4" of freezing rain on limbs right now. Fortunately, the ground is still to warm to have any ground accumulation. Starting to get some decent sized limbs in the yard, mostly out of sycamore trees, which still have their leaves. I'm hoping the wheat and rye that has sat on the ground in throw/mow plots for several weeks will wake up when it warms back up in a couple days.

One of the big guys we’ve been after several years finally showed back up. He’s been on a place we hunt since ‘14 when he was a 2 year old. Dawna got a shot at him and gave him a pretty good flesh wound in ‘18.


Here’s why he shows back up each October, he usually sticks around until the end of November and then he disappears again.

This is another fella from the same place that showed up for the first time last year. This picture doesn’t do his body justice; he is a toad. He’s got some very unique headgear too.

The scrape branch is getting a workout on the barn plot.


This fella worked it over pretty good, between him and the ice we got a couple days ago, I had to do some zip tie work to reinforce it.



You can see how this fella didn’t mess with it much a couple hours later, because it was too low.

That ones twin has been here...I say has been because I haven’t gotten any pics in over 2 weeks and we have had 2 firearms seasons in that time frame...

Got into the woods this evening on a buddy’s place. It’s a hardwood covered hill with bedding to the south and crop fields a half mile to the north. Even with the warmer temps, the deer moved pretty good. I saw couple nice 3 year old eights and got some video of the smaller of the two. Also saw a handful of does and a 1 year old buck. I rattled in the 8 I got the video of. It was a beautiful evening to be in the woods.

Had new fella show up on one of the places we hunt; I’m pretty excited about the possibility of seeing him.


He’s hitting a scrape right by a late small throw and mow plot that is flying up out of the ground now.

I’ve hunted the farm almost exclusively this past week, lots of deer sighted but no does or shooter bucks in range. We’ve had prevailing south winds and above normal temps. I’m trying to patiently wait for some north winds to hunt our best stands.

We finally have a front moving through. It has rained most of the morning, but the skies are beginning to clear and the temp is dropping. I came in early to the office this morning so I could leave early. I'll be in the stand this afternoon looking for this guy...

Forecasted temp for 4pm was 54, it's already 46 and the wind is perfect! I can hardly focus on anything here at the office right now! I'll actually have reception at this spot; so maybe I'll be able to post on the live thread for a change.

We’re under a wind advisory today, so I’m not sure what hunting will look like this evening. I might still hunt some of my in-law’s property. I plan to grab a couple cards off the Massey midday and hopefully have some pics of some newcomers.

Had a pretty nice card pull today. The lower barn plot at the Massey has been the hot spot. There is definitely a lot there for them to choose from. Actually, too many deer might be coming in during daylight; lots of eyes and I’m not sure our square bale blind is going to cut the mustard. Here’s a few pics. Why is it the ones we want to see the most always manage to stay just far enough away to keep us guessing? Also the scrape branch has taken an absolute beating. Next year I’m going to have to up the diameter of the branch.
