I love this cabin restoration. Your pictures tell the story wonderfully. I built a hunting cabin in the woods in 1990 and tore it down in 2014. It was in disrepair and my father-in-law wanted it gone.

Good job on the chimney removal.

After ripping off the old hemlock siding and wrapping with Tyveck I got my father up for a day to help put up siding. It looks nice but if I were to do it again it would be vinyl siding. too much maintenance. all I seem to do is work up there

I made the interior log siding out of 2 x 6 spruce and cleared with water based poly

I took all the old hemlock siding back to my shop, ran it thru the planer, squared it up and put a tongue and groove in it the pre finished it with clear

2010 was the first opening day in 12 yrs we spent at the cabin. Although the kitchen was still a wreck we hung a sheet over the doorway and stayed in the almost finished side

Not bored at all! I posted the same thing over on HT, these kind of threads are always popular as we in general are that time of people, hands on and like to build something out of all the pieces. Nice job on the project! Beautiful property.

More attempts to stabilize kitchen side. I made 16' long beams and slid under cabin. this one is holding ok

I was having a problem with the beaver clogging up my overflow pipe so I built a beaver deceiver, never had a clogged pipe since

Fantastic thread John! You'd make one heck of a neighbor. Pretty cool to have so much history with your dad, the cabin and his jeep. Love following along on your "rebuilds"!!

Had to make a new beaver deceiver last spring. they only last a few yrs but if your having clogging problems this is the way to go. the bottom of the cage never clogs and always flows water. I'm going to post this in the build thread too
