This silver/red hybrid maple in my folks yard appears to have gotten a strong dose of sun scald this past winter. Am I right on this diagnosis? If so, at what point is a tree no longer in danger? I would have thought a tree this big would not have been susceptible.
I assume that is the Southwest side - yes, that's what it looks like. You are correct that as a tree gets older that it is less prone to sunscald, but under the right circumstances, it's not impossible for one that large.
