Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

ah oh.

I lit and advanced two lines up and under that readily switched from back to head to backfires.

I now have faith in my top break.

With big winds forecast for today I held off on lighting up the whole ditch but I'm ready to this evening.

I waited till 7:30 pm for the winds to diminish, which they didn't do much.

High winds and lot of fuel for the west leg down.

I got down at 9:30 and a storm cloud put my fire out.

George… You HAVE to get this!

How bizarre, other than the next Watts riot, I really don't see much application for such, besides T-Man, I already shot my wad this past week.

I assembled it without the 6 1/2' track and trailer extensions, that I also purchased, thinking that I could get the shorter version up onto the plateau. But I now realize that there is no way that this thing will make it to the top so now before I even run it, it is going back on the porch for extension assembly.

You’re a machine! Burned my first ~8 acres this week, thanks for the inspiration.

That is great, you will have a lot of fun seeing how things respond. This, below, is a spot that I burned last year.

Out of the inferno right north above camp.

oak browse

IMG_3243 (1200 x 900).jpg

My new food plot is working, about everything is being browsed. I might shake out some clover mix up there, I'm going to place a couple of stands.

IMG_3251 (1200 x 945).jpg

IMG_3253 (1200 x 900).jpg

I'm still thinking on the big chestnut oak log that Tank is standing on.

The hack attack is on in unit G at the border between unit G and Unit F, the first unit hacked a year ago. A southern exposure oak /hickory community, I'm mostly killing red maple and a few sourwood and blackgum here and there.

IMG_3263 (1200 x 900).jpg

Things are looking much brighter over the line in unit F

The only thing missing is the fire, I may attempt a growing season burn up on the knob.

While i was still thinking on this log

IMG_3272 (1200 x 900).jpg

I decided to go rescue another chestnut oak that I heard fall a month ago up on the plateau.

IMG_3275 (900 x 1200).jpg

IMG_3276 (900 x 1200).jpg

So far I have turned it into 2- 9' and 9- 1 1/2' chunks.

IMG_3277 (1200 x 900).jpg

More site seeing in unit F on the way down.

IMG_3278 (1200 x 900).jpg

IMG_3279 (1200 x 900).jpg

Mid slope got real in unit G, poor deer habitat with lots of trees to kill. There are a good bit of little oaks competing in this mess. I'm killing sassafras, beech, maple, sourwood, tulips, black birch, and blackgum.

IMG_3280 (1200 x 900).jpg

IMG_3281 (1200 x 900).jpg

This will be awesome deer habitat.

How many years have u been working on this George? I have to say, this is one of my favorite habitat threads on the web because of the depth of your timber management.
