Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

Thanks guys.

I have some success, I planted Dolgo crab seedlings from Oikos last year

My top bottom plot was a mess, dead ash and hacked sycamores fallen.

As of yesterday, the eternal flame had been burning for 3 days.

George - Feel like I'm following along with one of John's jeep restorations. Don't know if it was fate or divine providence that caused your path to cross with this property. Seems like it was just laying there waiting on you to discover it and bring it back to life. Glad your taking the time to document all your doing and giving us the opportunity to come along for the ride.

Looks like Heaven.

In that case, I better get caught up humbling myself before the Lord so I can stay.

Hack and squirt only allows you to defer the mess.

Another year with big plans to make a food plot changed, I just added more clover instead.

Don't do it, unwanted invasives are a pain, so self-inflicted invasives will probably be even more painful?

Are native plants in their natural range, invasive plants?

These are a thornless variety.

I have a good bit of experience with honey locust from my time in Iowa. I killed a lot of them in Iowa but still liked the plant. Deer really like deer candy trees.

I guess in just prejudiced against locust. We have an infestation of black locust and they are a worthless tree that is difficult to get rid of. I know that deer like eating honey locust pods, but to me it's like Japanese honeysuckle, a deer food tree thats not worth it. I'll keep putting my efforts into trees like Kieffer pears. This is one of several maintenance free species that is overlooked for feeding wildlife.

As a native plant, robinia is in a class by it's self in it's ability to go crazy and wreck habitat under certain conditions. In Iowa it was crazy while here in ky it is merely a part of the habitat. Anywhere that they want to take over I hit them with triclopyr with good result. I put out more Kieffers every year.

My mess left in the cabin didn't go anywhere while I was neglecting it.

So color me clueless. Are those about 36" wide including the rocks lining the walls? And again, just trying to learn did someone go down in that to dig it or was there some kind of equipment that would be used? Guessing it was by hand but creeps me out thinking about being down in that. You have to admire the amount of "want to" in previous generations, I am always impressed by them.

George - I tire just following along on your thread. Amazing amount of tender-loving elbow grease that you just continue to do without any reservations. Inspiring just to follow along. As for the wells - reminds me of when I was a kid and our neighbor had rats or mice to die in their well. Watched em lover a man down in that well sitting on the bucket to clean it out.

I'm with Kurt on our forefathers' intestinal fortitude to get things done as they needed. Heck...I'm even more impressed with your intestinal fortitude. You need a Miss George back in that holler to keep you company.

Yep, those are what they call hand dug wells. I will use the second hole for my cabin when I get it moved.
