Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

Thanks guys. T-Max those videos are a pain to deal with but something worthwhile may come out of this.

I did come across this series of videos that I found to be rather interesting in regards to explaining different forms of tree harvest and oak regeneration. In the upper right corner is a scroll up/down/and all around for a virtual tour.

You need to get on the local Avon ladies call list for some chigger spray! Glad you are back in a spot you can turn some dirt. Hope to see some dead elk pics first!

I did have some left over skin so soft to oil up for my last trip. I got chiggered a bit on my arms and a few under the waist band but below the waist I'm pretty much un chiggered.

G, I wouldn't go around saying you are oiled up with skin so soft up those hollers in Kentuck. I'm pretty sure I saw that old cabin on the movie Deliverance :) Jst sayin.

Welcome to KY George! You’re about two hours from me and it looks like our terrain is very similar. Looking forward to following along.

Thanks HB, I hope that I didn't put the cart too far in front of the horse starting this thread. I still need to sell my house in CO to buy in KY. The red hot market here seems to be a bit chilly since I listed this house, 3 showings in the past 2 weeks and I already dropped the price 20K. I still have 75 days on the KY contract.

"Country is sitting on the back porch listening to the whip-poor-will late in the day". Coincidently, Tom T is from Olive Hill, a little town southeast of where I'm heading. I can't wait to hear the birds again.

I'm in contract with a pre qualified buyer to sell my house here in CO, a tentative 12/7 closing date. I'm going to get a chance to hunt KY this year.

I just can't stop looking at this thing on Google Earth. 1300 yards of continuous ridge top/highland all inclusive to the property.

Of course I've studied the soil survey and right down there in the bottom of the crack lays 5 acres of Shelocta gravelly silt loam derived from sedimentary rock, a soil said to be of major importance to Kentucky agriculture. There are 5 different soils but the whole property is pretty much tasty loam 40-60 inches down to bedrock.

Congrats G...Have you come up with a plan yet? Hunt or habitat work or combination of both or a place to lay your head at night?

Hopefully there will be some deer sign when you show up in December.

Enjoy your new journey!!

Thanks deer patch. I think for now a combination of hunt and explore. In regards to habitat as you know I usually just follow my saw and let the plan reveal it's self to me. A definite plan is to clean the crap out of the crack and then think about a place to lay my head this summer. I may get a wall tent and camp out up on the hill in the woods this winter.

When is the first forum work day going to be? I can’t wait to watch your new property develop.

I was looking at eastern KY property again late last week. I just don't think I can handle the 8 hour drive to get there. Looking forward to following along!

If we all take out a pickup load we'll have the crap cleaned out of the crack in a day or two.

I will be commuting 350 miles/6 hours for the time being. Whippoorwill comes from NJ.

I've got a feeling about this one.

He's grown a bunch.

You still set to close before long?

Can’t wait to see what you do with those ridges and the timber. Congrats on the sale of your Co house!

I had a set back with my home sale. My first buyer bailed on inspection day, a cracked floor joist. Truth is he wanted to go skiing and not home fixing. So I have spent the past month, particularly the past two weeks fixing and replacing and I now have a fully functional home ready to move in and go skiing. A week after the first guy backed out I was back in contract with a couple from Texas that made a better offer to start that I countered. I'm now ready, well almost ready cleaning day tomorrow, for inspection day on Tuesday and if that flies were looking at a 12/20 close in CO and a early January close in KY. I'm packing my shop up and moving back to Michigan the following Monday regardless.

Wow, nice place!

I see you’re from Pagosa! I’m actually researching about doing my first OTC elk hunt around there next fall, any tips/advice?
