Restoring my fathers old hunting Jeep

Well made a trip to JoAnne fabrics. Got the burlap, HD foam, 1/4" foam for panels and the roll of vinyl came today. Thank God for coupons. Got 50% off. Dang foam was expensive

My attempt at new seat upholstery

20190629_115100-800x600.jpg

First some burlap

I picked this up at lowes in place of the jute

So..... what you're looking at is a $ 62.00 PC of foam that I couldn't get the seat cover over. I took an electric knife and sliced it in half and still too tight.. what I settled on was the burlap, synthetic carpet padding then I put on 2 layers of 1/4" foam and the seat cover has 1/4" foam so that's 3/4" of foam.....more on that

20190629_124014-600x800.jpg

The back I did burlap and the 2" foam and the cover slipped right on

20190629_163327-600x800.jpg

The finished product, now, the seat is comfortable without the thick foam, the cover isnt "puffy" like the back.

The issue I have is I'm 6' 2" and I feel I'm sitting too low (knees are bent too much) to be comfortable on a longer ride. The original seat cover only had a about an inch or so of padding. Thinking about trying 1/2 more of padding but I know I should leave well enough alone

Color looks good with the red

Is it possible to raise the seat up to get you higher as opposed to making the seat cushion thicker? If it is a dumb question - that shows my lack of experience.

It looks good as is. Always enjoy this thread.

Thanks

Just wasn't happy with it so I took it to a friend of mine who dabbles in this stuff. She took the whole thing apart saw that the cover was smaller than the frame a bit. So we "rolled" the corners of the frame in a little then she took the foam and beveled it all around the perimeter. Good idea eh. So we got it done. Looks amazing and feels so much better

Today was make a headliner day, i used 1/8" waterproof cardboard, same as i used for the glove boxes I make and sell. I stretched the 1/4" foam a bit,

20190630_154756-800x600.jpg

Using commercial contact cement

20190630_154447-600x800.jpg

Sprayed both the foam and cardboard and just layed it on and rolled it

20190630_155339-800x600.jpg

20190630_155620-800x600.jpg

Then did the same with the vinyl

20190630_162103-800x600.jpg

I am a bit skeptical on whether this is going to stay stuck to the sound deadening material but you can't peel this stuff off once stuck so well see. Sprayed with contact cement

20190630_162250-800x600.jpg

20190630_163939-800x600.jpg

Now I'll just fit the panels good to the headliner and wrap them

Just looking at how you have laid out the parts, you are ready to get 'er done.

I have never worked on an engine so I love watching those that know how. Thanks for let us wanna be ride along.

Happy 4th John.

I remember the original pistons were shot all to hell but are those the original cam and lifters? Cool read as always.

Yes, cam and lifters are original. Had to order 0.10 over sized main bearings, so at a stand still for a bit.

After getting all the parts I need in I finally can make some progress

I got all new valves and got them in. The exhaust valve retainers were easy, for some reason the intake retainers got me to the point of wanting to stick a screwdriver in my eye

Freeze out plugs in. A bit of sealer first

Clearances are correct using the plastigage for the main bearings so some assembly lube and the crank is in

Today I got the pistons in, valves adjusted to 0.014, oil pump and pan on, sprayed the head gasket with copper gasket and got that on and torqued down, also exhaust and Intake manifolds on

Well she's put back together, I'm back where I was 2 months ago but with a fresh engine. Now I wait for the starter. A lot of time to think if I torqued everything correctly, if I missed a part, did I leave a socket in the cylinder ?? Oh hum

So here are my woes
The motor fired right up and ran excellent, however, no oil pressure. Shut her right down. I tried everything and nothing worked so I dropped the pan and pulled the oil pump. Took it apart and filled with vaseline. I never took off the distributor so I assumed.....yeah I know.....it went back in the same teeth. Got it al together took the plugs out and cranked the motor......still no pressure..... put the plugs in and now it won't start so obviously timing is off, but pump should still prime with cranking but it doesn't. So tomorrow the pan comes off again, try to time it right with the pump, but I'm not sure why I can't get pressure so I'm going to try sending oil under pressure into the oil galley thru the sender hole.

I'm not liking this truck at the moment, its fighting me every step. I fox something just to create a other problem, should stick with CJ's

John...Looks like she threw you an overhand right! You gotta come back with an upper cut and get back on top of that beast!

Yeah I found out the machine shop put in the rear cam bearing backwards so the motor comes out and gets taken apart again
