I buddy showed me that article on way down. Went 7 for 7 on recovered hogs. Wild you had the same picture

I have 2 more hog hunts lined up this spring. I can’t wait to do this again
 
I feel like your mind is made up, Bull, on rage. Seems fine as I think confidence is important to shot placement.

Good shot placement you can kill any animal in North America with a field point or .22 rifle.

Rage are best for soft tissue. Double lung and rage deploys for pass through there is nothing better. Misshit, non pass through, or mechanical error and they are inferior.

Because the animals I hunt don’t always stand still and wait for me to make a perfect shot, I prefer fixed blade cut on contact. They still cut when you don’t pass through and they can’t fail to deploy.

I shoot them for the misshit, string jump, small branch I don’t see, rib bone I hit square, etc...

Not right or wrong, just my .02. But taking and making the best shot possible is most relevant and if rage gives you that, perfect. They kill a lot of animals.

Ive pretty much made up my mind when my 2” rage blasted through a 200lb hog

The way I look at this. That shot on that pig is as tough as any moose or elk. If I hit the shoulder blade or leg bone it’s game over with a fixed or rage. If I hit the guts or liver, rage will do much more damage than a fixed

I reserve the right to change my mind but today I ordered 6 more 2” rage to do more testing
 
I believe there are a handful of perfect hunting matches: running jackrabbits and a Ruger 10/22M, and hogs and archery equipment.
 
I agree with you elk. My first bow hunt for pigs was last year. I think I like it better than deer hunting

It’s more unnerving for sure. We mainly hunt off the ground. Crazy excitement being that close to these beasts
 
Unnerving is right. On our last TX trip, I was thinning the axis doe population (best wild game I know of). I shot a doe which went on the typical death run. 20 min later, a big boar came by, hit the blood trail and took off on a dead run following the trail. I immediately heard grunting and tearing flesh. By the time I got to the doe, he’d completely gutted her eating every bit of the entrails. Can you imagine a wounded hunter leaking blood through the woods at night? I’ve had a couple different ranch managers tell me they loose a significant number of fawns to the big boars every spring. It adds some excitement when you’re alone busting through thick brush looking for an animal in the dark....
 
Isn’t it a known way to get rid of a human body - feed it to the pigs

These things are tough. On the picture below I hit what I thought was perfect shot at 25 yards. Right at the knuckle. The 150-175lb (we never weighed it) hog ran off and I could see blood pouring out it’s side. An hour later we took up a relatively easy blood trail. No kidding we went 400-500 yards and finally kicked up the hog. My guide put 3 45’s in it before it went down.

I looked at him and said, tell me how I could have hit this hog better. He said, great shot, hogs are tough. The hole in the neck is from the 45 caliper pistol

I might have been a little low and just clipped the heart. Since that shot I aim just a tad higher

Try VPA broad heads. They aren’t too well known but great quality. Fixed blade, one piece tool grade carbon steel that fly really well at least for me but I’m no Robin Hood either
 
Getting ready to read through this thread. I drew a KY archery bull elk tag this year and am considering using Rage hypos.

Have you elk hunted the rut before bull? I elk hunted in New Mexico once, but it was mid December.
 
I’ve got two elk with a bow. A cow and 5x7. Both with thunderheads

Thunderheads don’t shoot well with my current set up

Actually shot today. Thunderheads, QAD Exodus and G5. Only G5 flew well

Buddy told me to try slick trick vipertrick. Slick tricks fly well but I had poor results recovering hogs with them. Hole is too small and some people claim the 4 blade hole closes on itself.
 
Well I am back to either muzzy trocar or slicktrick 1”. Only two broadheads that shoot like field points in my bow

G5, Shuttle T, viper tricks all don’t group for me at 30 yards. G5 is the best of the group

Shot slick trick 4 blades today. 1-2” group at 30. Talked to a great elk hunting friend and he’s taken 7 bulls with them. I think I’m going with accuracy. He said they got one bull last year with a rage but also lost one. Said 2 small holes are better than one big one.
 
I just returned from Colorado and was lucky to harvest my biggest bull to date. He was a mature 6 pt and my third elk taken while using Slick Tricks. None of the three bulls I have shot have fallen out of sight with the longest recovery being 60 yards. I do not know how these small diameter broad heads can cause so much trauma but they certainly do. When skinning the bull, it looked like it was shot with a 270. He made it less than 40 yards and I had a pass through with center punched his lung and caught the bottom of his offside lung. My buddy killed a larger 6 pt bull and used Montec G-5's. His bull made it 25 yards before going down.
 
Leave tomorrow for WY elk. Chose slicktrick after getting much advice. Thanks guys, you give me confidence
