Quapaw Meadows (My 160 Acres)...

Throw and Till should work great at that depth. I have been watching 10 day forecast and have not found a planting date yet.

I hope you are right with the throw and Till and hope rain chances turn into actual rain.

Good looking crop of bucks! Pray for rain, I got my plots planted this weekend and the rain forecast has vanished:mad:

Chance of rain everyday Starting tomorrow with an 80% chance Friday evening. Really hoping my daughter gets Crack of the big buck.

I wish we had that chance...ours is showing 20% chance :(

Very nice bucks, hopefully you will find yourself eye to eye with one once the season rolls around.

The throw and till worked great for my milo this summer. I put in my cereal mix using that same method on labor day. Of course, i am a small plotter using a garden tiller, so i kind of have to go that way. A quarter acre took me a couple of hours. I tilled about 2" deep.
Kill vegetation well in advance/seed/fert/till/ pray for rain.

Thanks. Hoping my daughter gets a crack at the big boy.

Hope you are right. Received 0.9" Friday night and more chances later this week. I did an acre in less than a hour, but I was using a 5ft tiller. There wAS quite a bit of clover mixed in the crabgrass so I am hoping the clover will come back with the shallow tilling.

I'm hoping my Grandson takes a memory maker as well...I guess any first deer would fit that description though. Best of luck fo your Daughter & you.

Missed out on the rain today but some more decent chances later this week. Day off so I had PT for my shoulder this morning then headed out to the farm. I wanted to over seed some ladino in a few areas and fill up a couple of corn feeders. Snapped a few pics. I received a little rain last weekend and it was enough to get my seeds up and running. Still a little behind with the dry weather. Both pl ots were planted Labor Day.

My main plot was just a quick lazy throw and till. Sprayed with cleth a few weeks prior. I just broadcasted the seed then shallow tilled to work the soil and get the seed covered. We have take off:

In a few areas where the there was clover I just broadcasted into the soil. I don't know how much of this coming up is from my recent broadcasting or seed left over from mowing the wheat and rye this spring. Either way I'm getting some good growth in the clover and thatch.

My Eagles are close to being done. What few leaves are left are starting to just get a light yellowing tinge. Still a few green leaves but the deer are demolishing them. Sorry for the blurry picture but the exclusion cage tells the story.

Quite a few pods for the deer this winter. I overseeded the beans on labor day but no germination with the seeds just sitting on top of the ground. Need a good soaking rain to get those seeds going.

My new plot--(need a name for it) is on lower ground and the soil seems to hold water a little longer. It was planted on the same day and is having a little better germination. Already quite a few deer tracks in it but don't see any foraging. Plants are still just a little too small. One more rain should get it going strong.

I grafted several native pecan trees this spring. I think I grafted about 10 and 7 of them are successful. Here is one that has really taken off this year.

Bucks are already starting to rub---here is a sumac that one buck went to town on.

Lots of pollinators on the boggy bottom plot. Enjoying some chicory flowers in bloom right now

Always exciting to check cam pics this time of year. I've started driving my tractor to all my camera sites. I think this really helps as the deer are so use to tractors. Seems like they come right back quickly when using the tractor.

New bucks are arriving weekly and a few good ones have showed up.

Boggy Bottom buck is becoming a little more nocturnal but on the plot every evening.

However, he now has competition for the girls. This boy is impressive but I think he is 3 year old. I will have a really hard time not pulling the trigger.

But I think this big boy has them all beat--well at least in weight.

One more pic and I am done for the night.

God Bless
todd

Todd, glad you have growth on the stuff you planted labor day. I haven't had any growth yet on mine that were planted that weekend but maybe we will get some rain soon.

I think the buck would be in trouble if he was over here. Lots of pressure around me but I know you said nobody hunts around your place or something like that so maybe you can give him that time if you think he is 3...

On the pig...choot em!

I have one neighbor that hunts and no doubt they would take the buck. I just need a good broadside pic of him so I can age him better. He very well may be a little older. I'm sure with next camera pull I will have more pics--at least I hope so.

Hoping rain is on the way for both of us.

The red icon is my 160. I deleted the other one to try to make the pic smaller. Well then Johnny-take your force field back. I don't want It.

Just wait a minute and screen shot it again...

Besides that I am the official owner of the force field now - Brush has had deluges of rain in the amount of time it took us to get the 1/8th" that we have had...
Split my place and then reformed after it got east. Bummer. Might have received a few dtops.

Nice looking bucks you have there, dogdoc. We have named some of ours "tall guy" but you have one that fits that name.
As for name of your new field, Triple C will have to help with that.....something like "lower field that has more moisture"

He is a tall boy. Maybe "Too Tall Jones" after Ed "Too tall" Jones.

Good name for the field but that's too much typing. Maybe Boggy Bottom Jr. I can abbreviate it as BBJ Plot?

Cool pic of the bee. Not cool pic of the hog. Our DNR will come and kill any hog you report to them. So far, I've only ever caught one on camera several years ago. What kind of crossbow will you be shooting? You might have said.
