Thanks for this information. Will use this method for our Pa side going forward. I don't think it will change trespassing issue but will keep signs from being torn down.We completed our 35 year in a old school Pa deer camp.Good year with a number of what we consider quality bucks for our part of 1B.Observations from two weeks of hunting. Bigger bucks each year,reason number 1 is trigger control not only by us but neighbors as well.Three bears seen with a good one taken by neighbor.We may consider hunting next year.Fishers,beavers continue to increase.Coyotes about the same.Grouse numbers way down to almost nothing.Will issue final report since we have a bonus weekend on our Ohio side and flintlock in Pa

Your trespassing issue should change, if you can get a picture or personal info of the guy the game warden will now go after them. And they are known to be aggressive in going after people.

We've had that in Kansas for a while. Everyone knows what it means now. What cracks me up is when someone thinks they are going the extra mile when they paint the whole post purple... That doesn't mean "written permission only..." it means you have a purple post...

Do you have property that is in both states?

Yes, Pa is 515 acres and Ohio is 125 acres.Camp is on Pa side.Walk down 100 yard drive, cross 25 ft.township road and then on Ohio side.We are so fortunate to have a situation like this for over 40 years.

Do people really know exactly what trees are the property line. Feel like there are going to be guys just marking trees where they "think" line is. I can tell you me and my neighbors have no clue we just have an about idea where our grandparents told us with a squinting eye and thumb test or now we have onx I guess that may be close.

Just painting random trees is exactly the same as just nailing up random posters, a good way to fall out with your neighbors is to put posters 20' on their side.
If I can afford land, I can afford to have the property lines marked accurately.
If the two adjoining landowners don't care whether the property line is exactly at the right place they shouldn't care if the purple paint is at exactly the right place. The onX maps that we've checked are not all accurate. They can only be as accurate as the inputs/ data that they have available. If there are no current accurate surveys OnX is not going to go out and survey a property, they are getting tax maps from the county, which are often inaccurate.
As far as not knowing where the line is, often the corners are marked, which makes it easy to mark the line, just rent a survey GPS and base unit, 5 minutes of training for a tech savvy person will enable them to pull a straight line between two known points.

I've always been a big proponent of having property lines well marked, I am convinced that a well marked property line is as important as signs in deterring trespassers. If you are walking through the woods and come to my property line you are going to feel like you came to a fluorescent orange colored virtual fence. I like marking trees about every 25' or closer with flitches or blazes 48" high using oil base paint in "Safety Orange" color. If you want your blazes to last you have to use oil base paint and put it on with a brush.
