Pa Hillbilly Farming

Thanks Double. Our local JD dealer has little in stock and is an hour away. Our MF dealer has been great, has a large inventory and is 20 min away. I’ve contemplated an upgrade for a while but haven’t made a decision as I’m getting by....when the equipment is working. Presently run a 54hp MF and a 65hp Landini.

A good dealer is a major factor. As I tell my customers " A good dealer isn't important till the day you need them". The other thing with I look at which most people never care about about since they keep them forever, is resale value as I turn mine over often. I think the green holds value more than most, again my opinion only..

Setting up a notill drill to plant is working with quite a few different adjustments. I put labels on the front of mine with my different settings for different seeds, that way I can quickly see what I need to do. Did you put any lime on this new field yet? I can't wait to see how this turns out.

No lime but I put out my Humistart from Timac. I keep a note book in the drill box with all the settings and of the seed being planted. Darn near have ran out of ink in the pen since I do math in note book too. New seed blend. New tractor. New foamer. New weight added to drill. It took hours to get the thing set up and ready to go. All the while I figured I would have been done planting 6 acres. In the first evening. All done now and it’s looking good. Now to move on to planting 96 fruit trees.

If it isn't already your property is headed to be the every best deer garden around. The planting of 96 fruit trees is awesome; the protecting of them is time consuming but the overall impact in a few short years will be so huge.

Please tell me about the new tractor and why you picked this particular model.

Well one thing that impressed me with this tractor was as I planted last night, as I got to the end of the feild when I would start my turn as the bucket would just clear the brush pile I would pick the drill up do a 360 turn and could drop the drill right where I picked it up. It will do a complete turn in the total length of itself. Turning radius is crazy tight

well after doing inventory of trees I ended up with 101. Put 38 in the new sawmill plot. I’m trying to break up the field into compartment sections. Guess we’ll see how this works. In my mind it seems like a great idea, but then again a lot of my past failures seemed like a good idea at the time.

Love Louies' use of the upside down deer beds; or maybe they are not upside down? It is inspiring to see all of the habitat work you get done after work! Any past failures you had no doubt WERE a great idea at the time; conditions must have changed. I like compartment planting as well as compartment crop tree releasing for the more consistent availability of food in each spot we choose.
