Yes you read that correctly. We are about to attempt to move some of my larger chestnuts and oaks from my old place of residence to where we live now.
A little background and for those that don’t know we have decided to completely remodel and sell our house. With the sale will go several 8-9” in diameter chestnut trees as well as my 30’ tall DCO and my Concordia Oaks that I gather nuts from every year. We have decided to attempt to move a few of them with a large hydraulic tree spade as whoever ultimately buys the house will most likely want the property for something else rather than a chestnut orchard. It would absolutely break my heart if I sell the place and the new owners cut them all down.
Will be interesting to see how they all respond to being moved. I am hopeful they will survive as all these trees were started in rootmaker pots so they most likely do not have a very long taproot even for such a large tree.
I plan to chronicle our progress here in this thread so stay tuned!
