Plot has killer access
Big quad trunk maple that is perfect for the stand
Old part of orchard that butts up next to it
Oak ridge that follows that as well
Should be a KILLER spot!

We got the property posted on all the road frontage sides, boy those VOSS signs are nice! I also got the grass mowed and took a soil sample on the new RIDGE plot.

One piece of bad news was after running the dozer for a bit my operator noticed the oil cap was missing. Oil was spewing everywhere and that was it for the dozer for the day. They weren't able to get us a part back out to us so I am going to have to schedule another time to finish the work - that is ok though it could always be worse.

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend. The overhaul on the new farm has begun! The future, I hope, will be legendary!
 
This is pretty exciting stuff making trails and food plots. All of our grounds are so different. Your ground looks so user friendly where your plots are that your plots look finished just from the bulldozer work. It's looks like moisture wise you caught it just right for working as well. Our ground is normally so wet and full of stones that the plots look like they were bombed once the bulldozer work was done. It is fun following your progress.

Thank you - the friend of mine who runs the dozer is a hell of an operator as well! We have more work to get done but its on the way to having a place that should hold/grow some good deer!

buckhunter...Not sure I can think of anything more enjoyable than breaking ground on new property. Your trail cutting and dozer work reminds me of our early years on the farm. Enjoy the journey! Great thread!

Thank you buddy! This new chunk of ground is just fun to work. My mind is racing with ideas. Having a great operator on the dozer is helpful. My friend Henry is awesome at running that thing!

This is just the start my friend!

Well to be honest I haven’t planted garden yet. Probably will do some Sunday. Ohio is finally having 80 degree temps but we have had lows in 40s a few times yet which worries me cause I know we could get a frost. My 100+ tomato’s are coming along inside nicely and I’ve hardened them up well outside.
 
Well a few quick updates -

Cousin will be at farm on Memorial day - going to burn down plots with gly
I will plant the following week
Mowing
Dozer work continues
ETC

Today I cooked up a backstrap - Mom got me a dutch oven for XMAS and it is awesome! Below is the recipe
1. One back strap (soak in salt water to defrost/blood soak)
2. marinate in your favorite BBQ sauce
3. 1tbs of butter, jalapeños rings, banana pepper rings - get this hot/popping in dutch oven
4. Pre heat oven to 400
5. Once dutch oven is hot and the oven is hot - time to sear the backstrap
6. Sear each side for 5-6 mins each
7. As soon as the last side is seared - pop in over for 10-11 minutes for medium rare. ENJOY!

Looking good. Ran into a buddy of mine that asked if I needed any dozer work. He finished up everything at his new house and said it’s just sitting there if I want to use it at the farm this summer. Just need to find someone to haul it 90 miles to my farm. I’m thinking bass pond LOL

It’s honeslty amazing what you can do with a solid dozer and operator. I don’t run the dozer I have a buddy who taught at operating at hocking college - he’s amazing at it.

Eventually Dad and I have talked about dozing out some pines behind the house and bringing in an excevator to dig a pond. Had a guy look at it and it wasn’t that expensive and also could run rain runoff from house to the pond which would be sweet to reduce erosion on hillside.
 
Well boys and gals - here is a most recent update. We did a lot of work, lots of trees were moved, new plots in and old ones replanted. Please follow along below.

I got to the farm early Saturday morning and it was time to go to work - I spread 1000lbs of 6-24-24 on three plots. I also added 5 more bags to the 15bags my cousin spread last week on a new pot called (Ridge Plot)

As I was working ridge plot, I noticed that the old apple trees, now released, are coming back to life!

I then worked the lime/fert into the soil, and planted Ridge plot. This plot will be in clover, alfalfa, radish (cover crop)- I will overseed with rye grain come fall.
