Lock/hang on stand preference

I prefer any... hang on stand with a chain, but they're few and far between anymore.
I have converted several stands to chain on's. I take off the Nylon and drill a hole on each side , attach two S hooks. I attach a chain in one side and close the hook. The other side I hook the chain pretty tight, and wrap the chain around the stand then padlock it to the tree. Lastly I remove my ladder steps when I leave. I figure it's too much trouble to get to the stand, cut the chain, and get it back to the ground. A lot of trouble for a $50 stand.

I’ve got 27 lone wolf stands.

What’s great is I leave them up with one strap and carry a new one when I hunt. This way you always have a fresh strap. Plus they are very easy to carry in to hunt a tree you don’t have a stand.

Light, extremely quiet and I can easily sit all day with a cushion if need be

Millennium m60u with preset sticks and chain brackets. I modified the stand with versa buttons so a lone wolf strap is a option as well.
I had m25's and while comfy they literally turned orange. I Will never buy a steel hang on again. Really wish they made aluminum 20ft. climbing sticks.
The millennium replaced a lone wolf assault that I was struggling with comfort. However, since adding a super slumper seat pad the LW stand is now tolerable.

I just thought I's pass on this info about a great place to buy high quality straps. Shipper's Supply custom makes really heavy-duty straps for a decent price.

I really like that the ratchet is available in stainless ($5 more) and you can get the strap in olive color. I hate black straps. They stick-out like a sore thumb. I try to conceal my stands as much as possible. Whether it's thieves, squatters, or just the curious, I don't want anyone seeing them. Olive straps hide better. I gave the stainless ratchet a quick over-spray of primer to dull them. The S hooks on these are top quality but I'd advise opting for the more open style hooks. The throat of the standard hooks are a little bit tight for hooking on to stand tubing.

And my opinion on hang-on stands...It's all I use, and the smaller the platform the better. I like to tuck it in among multi-trunk trees or other cover. There's times when a small platform barely fits where I need it. Those stands with huge platforms often just won't work.
And any type stand needs to be level. I won't own a hang-on that the platform can't be leveled. I do have some el cheapo hang-on that couldn't be leveled. I changed the cable to chain so it now can be leveled...just pick the proper link to lengthen the chain and level the stand.

Thing I like about chains is they can’t cut or tear. Squirrels can’t chew them either.

And once the chain stand is fully set on the tree, they're quieter than straps, too. Straps are a little easier than chains to initially hang the stand, but straps flex and creak too. I'm in a strap stand right now with the cheap straps that came with it. The straps make some noise when I shift my weight. That doesn't happen with chain.
