I found him less than 15 yards from where I left off last night. Teaser pic

Been working getting stands up. This is where I'll be the next two days.
I am just on the woods east of our beans and wheat/winter peas/brassica plots. There are several large white Oaks just to the south east of me
May not see much after all the racket I've made this morning, but I'm going to the camper for lunch to change cloths and we'll see what comes through.20161003_130151.jpeg

Anybody out there today? A little bit of chill in the air earlier this morning here in VA. Almost starting to feel like hunting season.

I will be out tonight ( no live from the stand though as I dont have a smart phone). Thursday evening and Friday look to be great days for me. Fairly strong cold front is going to drop the day and night time temps by 20 degrees. Our 1st chance of frost for the fall is Thursday night. That should surely get some critters moving a bit.

We went this morning and while I saw lots of wildlife, none were deer. I'm thinking if we get a front through here later this week things will pick up. It was in the mid 80's here today. I second Turkey creek on that.

Thank goodness I don't have cell phone service at farm for live talk, so I'll give late update. I'll just be the loser mascot while you other guys show your successes. Anyway, sneaked out after work. About a 30 min drive to farm, and it turned out much warmer than I thot. Anyway, got on stand about hour/half before dark. Hardly sit down and deer are working the acorn flat I am sitting . It is about 70 yds on the inside corner of my alfalfa field. I'm hunting with the recurve and don't want to shoot just anything. Finally a group of fat does present themselves. Just as I am about to bust one, a limb falls and spooks the clan. But they feed back Again I have another doe broadside. Im standing and bend at waist , wait a sec to let her move onside leg forward for more forgiving shot, draw as another doe snorts, and release arrow.
If you have ever shot a trad bow you know they appear in slow motion. I watched the white feather fletching fly right on line with her boilermaker….. and either I shot high or she ducked. Either way just skimmed her back and killed a leaf on the ground.
Dang it dang it dangit. The deer blew out of there in a heart beat. You can beat a target to death at all angles, but the real thing just uses diff rules.
I sat down and even after all these years of hunting, my legs were shaking and my heart a racing. I was mad, aggravated, kicked my self, and then a smile acoss my face. It was a great hunt, on a quite night ,with the wind just perfect, with a dozen deer under my stand, but sure wish I would've scored. Compound can't come out until that happens. Good news, is all these deer were bedded in the thicket I hinge cut for Ramdom Cluster #1 on a side ridge point. So for you guys that miss, use me as your bean bag.

dogghr I have missed plenty in my time. I have missed with every weapon I have ever hunted deer with from Osage selfbow to 300 win mag...if you hunt enough you will miss and sometimes you will wound...nature of the beast!

I really liked the story and we will just call it catch and release ;)
