Logging has begun. Only 6 loads off so far but sunlight already peaking through. Planning to burn first or second year post logging.
2024 spring burn very productive this year, probably will burn again in 2026.

A few pictures from last week.
Competing for most structure in a clover plot
Plenty of clover in this one too. I’ll add 50-60 pounds/acre of cereal grain and a few more pounds of ladino.
Logging bringing sunlight back!
Poplar stump sprouts getting hammered already.

I love it, selective logging is the smartest thing that you could do for increasing habitat and increasing future timber value.A few pictures from last week.

After a few replacements on my sprayer, finally got my plots sprayed. In reality I only sprayed a portion of one plot. Most have enough clover that I’ll just manage the best I can and see how long they’ll last.
Brass hose splitter to replace the leaking plastic one.
New wand

Thought this was a useful picture. Fire under full shade equals no food.

Finally made it up to finish planting. It’s been dry when I’ve had the opportunity over the last 6 weeks so it’s a little on the late side.
The only plot I terminated back in August had a lot of volunteer WW. I added a few bags of WR for good measure and a little clover/chicory on part of it.
This was my original plot started in fall 2018. I decided not to terminate it this year, the 2024 ladino was looking good enough. It was mowed a few weeks ago and just over seeded with WR on Sunday. This is the best this plot has ever looked in September I think. It’s not magazine clean but there is a lot of clover in there.
I over seeded two other clover plots with WR and updated a few mock scrapes. A little overkill on this one!
Looking forward to 2025 hunts! We’re a few weeks into the season and I haven’t hunted, hoping to change that soon.

It’s slow. Just ordered windows and doors, shingles order is next. I expect we’ll have that stuff knocked out this month.
