High cutting mower options

I know most of us are getting into prime hunting mode, me included, but my wife wants some ideas for my Christmas list so i am thinking about my wish list for next year's habitat work.

For those of you that don't have heavy equipment, what sort of mower options are you using? I am looking for something fairly cheap (not DR mower prices), easily portable, has the ability to cut relatively high (4"+), and does ok in rough terrain (maybe self propelled). I am tired of using the weedeater on my trails and food plots. Does anyone just use a regular push mower and if so how does it do in thick rye and underbrush? Any other good options that won't break the bank?

I need something like that too. If it could fit in a truck under a bed cover, that would be perfect.

I tried a regular push mower raised to the highest level, but it wasn't great. I did manage to cut almost a mile (with hills), and I won't be doing that again. It had to be done though at the time.

If you want a cheap high cutting mower buy a cheap mower and put bigger wheels on it.

That's a good suggestion, but I'm not sure I'd want to pay to rent one every year. Probably would do in a pinch though. Thanks.

We’ve used these before with great success at my old lease. I just wish it was a wider cut. I don’t know what it costs to purchase one, but it’s cheaper than a tractor and brush hog

This is similar to what I was thinking...take tall rear wheels from a scrap mower and put them on the front to raise the whole thing. Also, cut out the front of the deck like the pic below.

I started a Lawn care Business up again and I bought a Used John Deere Mower to do it with. When the Blades are getting dull and towards time to sharpen, I take it to the woods and mow our trails and around the camp.

Come home and sharpen the Blades and back to customers yards.

It will raise the Deck to 4" so it works great for what I need.

What I REALLY want to do is buy an older Snapper Mower with the Rear Engine design. Take off the Front Wheels and weld on a Tongue pull it behind the 4-Wheeler.

Swisher makes a rough cut trail mower. It's like a small tow behind brush hog. You can find them used in the $800 range, if you look hard enough.
