Welcome to the forum. Depending on where you are located, there may be an abundance of native forage in your area. Spring green up is in full force in my area and deer will prefer that any day to supplement feed.

Agree with bearcat as native forbs have sustained deer long before food plots, feeders, and other methods of human intervention. Not to mention that many deer have different summer and winter ranges so they might have transitioned to their summer bedding areas already. MSU Deer Lab has some great studies on deer travel, home ranges etc that would be worth checking out.

I don't personally use feeders but if I did, i dont think I'd waste the time and money on them right now.

I feed corn from around September 1 until sometime in March, after that it’s protein pellets and mineral blocks. Of course my wheat/clover plots are still going but the deer don’t eat much wheat after green up. You can always tell when natural browse becomes available, because the wheat looks as if it starts growing overnight. 02220437.jpeg04070491.jpeg
