Around here they are a nuisance to farmers. They grow well where a brush hog cannot go. I got a bright idea to try to dig some up and transplant into secluded open areas of my land. Has anyone tried this with success?
Yes, I've had some to survive. The key is to get them while very small (like knee high), and get the largest root ball you can get. Sometimes you don't know whether you are digging a sprout from a seed or a root sucker from an established tree system. In either case, the big root ball is important. Transplanting trees larger than this hasn't worked well for me. Good luck.
I've planted a couple thousand bare root persimmon from MDC and IN DNR nursery. I've had maybe 20 survive, and have yet to see the first persimmon. Poor transplant success, is an understatement. I don't have a source of native trees to dig transplants, wish I did.
All I know is I can plow a field and pull up all kinds of persimmon roots and those things will grow wherever a piece of those roots gets buried. Pain in the butt in food plots!

here is a nice size female I dug up and relocated in my plot. I have about 50/50 success rate. If your just going to cut them down anyway it can’t hurt to try
