Habitat Management Field Day - Buffalo/Niagara

I have attended one field day in 2014 in the state of Indiana. It was not a QDMA event. I learned more in one day than maybe a week of reading.
I think the fact this event is Free shows the level of dedication - good for yall as us Southern boys say. I am disappointed the old place closed down but we sure have it good here.
I hope you have great weather and good attendance. Since I live in Tennessee it is not possible for me to attend. I certainly encourage people in your area to take advantage of this opportunity.
Seeing things first hand is ten times more effective than reading about it.

You'll be happy to to know that part of Field Day tour will include a look at some of your "1000 chestnut trees" project !

That is great news for sure. Please tell the attendees that can they can get on my distribution list for this fall. I would be glad to add their name to a growing list.
If you get a chance, post a photo of your chestnuts here or over on the 1000 Chestnut Thread. Makes me smile to know what started here will soon feed deer on your land in New York.

You can have my spot. I'm out of here right after retirement! It may be nice weather and scenic for 3 months of the year but, the trade off of living here the rest of the year is not pleasant.

I was fortunate to catch a local branch event in SW PA last Saturday. Erich Long from Drumming Log Wildlife Management was the guest speaker. Local branch member Carl hosted the event on his beautiful 80-acre farm. As wbp said, I learned a ton in just a few hours. Event was free and open to everyone. Lunch and cold water & soda was also provided free of charge. Sort of mellowed my anger at the QDMA to be honest.

Each person deals with disappointment and unkind acts in their own personal way. When they announced they were closing the forum everyone was caught off guard. It was a decision that generated huge disappointment and anger by many.
Anger is not an emotion that serves one well - the longer we carry it around the greater the personal toll it creates on our outlook and health in some situations. I am 63 and have learned to put things in the rear view mirror - to leave them behind. It amazes me the people born in the decade I was born in that carry around today some foolishness that happened in high school. We were all young and stupid back then. Yet these men and women have been carrying emotions for over 4 decades.
I appreciate your post Weasel - QDMA has done good things. Do I have hard feelings about the forum closing? Not near as much - because I absolutely love what is right here in front of us. A forum that in less than 30 days has over 500 registered users with the right to post and discuss our passion.
So the silver lining in this cloud sure is pretty IMHO. For me - I ain't looking in the rear view mirror.
