Wondering if anyone has experience w/ Elberta peaches (freestone)? Got a place in the VA mountains & we're putting in a small orchard & was wondering if they'd do well there. Also, what plums might you recommend? TIA!

I don't grow Elberta. I do grow a few plums. You may want to look at Black Knot resistant varieties. Japanese varieties are said to be resistant. Santa Rosa is pretty common at nurseries. Damson is resistant and so are some of the Auburn University varieties.

I have an Elberta. Loved it before brown rot got started. Now, no more edible peaches for me.

Thanks! What are some good nurseries to purchase from & is now a good time to plant peaches & plums? Is Stark Bros. any good?
