Does anyone remember when Walmart usually puts their trees on sale? I was a couple weeks late last year and they didn't have much left. I just don't remember when it was.
i will keep you in mind Seabee. I have never seen them, but there is always a first! If anyone sees some persimmon at an Indiana store, could you report back to this thread please!
They shipped in March:

3 gallon?
I called my dad this weekend, he cleaned out all the leftover 3 gallon Chestnut trees from our local Walmart. They were marked down as well! I just hope he can keep them in good shape until I get them in the ground (likely this winter).

Glad to hear you found some! Good hunting!!!!I'm heading to Ga. this weekend for a little hog hunting at my buddies. I called around a few Walmarts down there and located some persimmon. He went today and picked them all up for me. He said they had a boat load of chestnut too but being I own a very small piece of ground I am almost over my tree capacity…lol.
We bought 3 chestnuts when they first came in last year at full price and planted them right away since they were still dormant. They look great this year. We went back when the price dropped and bought some persimmons and watered them all summer. We kept them in the same bucket which proved to be a mistake because the roots circled. You live you learn. Guess I should probably invest in a few root makers myself.
Good to hear the chestnuts are doing well without having to baby them. Did you plant them in an area of full sun? I ran a soil test on the property I'm hoping to buy and to my surprise most of it is classified as sandy loam (Cecil, Enon, Toccoa, and Wilkes). I had previously assumed most of the soil in upstate SC was mainly clay, guess I was wrong!
What kind of bugs were attacking your persimmon?
Did you tube or wrap your tree trunks in addition to caging them?
