Planting Time in Central Alabama
Well, it is probably about time for central Alabama to have some dry weather, because the Bull Pen, Mandy Hollow and Cari's Corner got planted on Tuesday. We fired up the Chisel Plow again this year to create some nice furrows. Broadcast seed and fertilizer, and ran over lightly with a small disk. Made a few changes to some plots, letting existing fields go idle and planting more into the woods surrounding. Also, tried one bag of Buck Forage Oats. I made sure to isolate them so I can really tell how well they last and draw.
Some of the fields just before planting:
We had one area in the woods that had been planted in years past but our make shift bridge washed out and cut off access. So, in with a new culvert
And we were able to plant this area of Bull Pen woods.
Lots of pictures of some crazy antlers in this area, so hoping the plot does we

Looks like you should be in good shape with a little rain. I think weve had more summer the last couple weeks than last few months. Hope you get rains on that. Your soil never looks very sandy for your area. Like the way the chisel works. Going down next week to NC to help SIL plant his yard, may see if he can grab one of those. Good luck on those nice bucks, mine are still laying low.

I thought things were better, or at least there is not much stuff to take anymore. But I was mowing today and noticed this:
Seems an ATV made a trail over this mound area, and right over the small pine tree front right in the picture. Not sure what to think about it.

It is no secret that I like the chisel plow, but it does make for a bumpy tractor ride sometimes while planting and disking
That really sucks!!!! If I was closer we could low fence itI thought things were better, or at least there is not much stuff to take anymore. But I was mowing today and noticed this:

This property borders the National Forest so I rode tractor near any openings but did not find any more sign. I will be on the lookout though.That really sucks!!!! If I was closer we could low fence it

lak...It's amazing how planting impacts rainfalls. Pretty much guaranteed to eliminate the possibility rain! I planted last weekend into great soil moisture from Irma. We got over 3 inches. Forecast was for 80% chance of rain today when I planted last weekend. Of course it has changed to basically nothing showing for the next 15 days.

YIKES!!!! My seeds germinated. The plots I planted two weeks ago have had no rain but I checked today and wow at the little plants popping out of the ground.
Some of the plots are among Sawtooth oaks so lot of activity there

The Buck Forage Oats really took off. Can you tell where the Chisel Plow Furrows are?
In one plot I have some corn around the camera but the deer are preferring the new growth on oats and wheat.
