Bull Pen, Mandy Hollow and Cari's Corner

lak...Mercy me. Just now catching up on threads. I'll blame it on a crazy busy travel schedule and just not able to check in as often as I would like. Prayers sent for your mom and the family. Enjoy each moment. And...get that chicken pot pie recipe for all of us. Lost my dad in 1994 and my mom in 2000. Still miss em till this day. The last stage of life can bring so many emotions and a good dose of them are joyous emotions of fond memories representing days gone by. As for the garden...always love seeing your maters on the forum. Turkeys...not sure what is happening the the population but thankful it's not the demise of our deer herd. Never herd a tom gobble. Saw a hen last time down but not a single gobble from a tom during the season. Give your mom a big hug from all of us guys!

That garden is looking real good. Prayers for your mother.
Thanks and thanks.
I am so happy to report that my Mother is doing so much better. Still has heart condition that slows her down but off Oxygen, better appetite, and enjoying some mater sandwiches. We have been able to ride the countryside a bit and she has enjoyed. Loves having friends and relatives visit. Thanks for all the concern and kind words

Mother tires out in a hurry if she tries to walk to the garden, or around the house. So I bought her a new Toy, a Yamaha Golf Cart. She goes slow but can check on everything now!

This is what she rides to check on. Got some tomato vines that are LOADED this year.

Unfortunately, however those same storms can wreak havoc on the "Pier Garden" Fried Green Tomatoes, anyone?

It may just be camera angle but this particular doe seems pretty big:

Glad the mom is doing better. I like her new ride. Need to put16s on that with winch on front for her. Hate that about you matters but green ones are the best. Liked the kid pics, can tell they have a great time there. Mine were up past weekend and house had to be rebuilt. Doe looks like the south end of a freight train.

Mom looking good in that golf cart! Always enjoy your updates. Too bad on the storms wreaking havoc on your maters.

Ain't getting mators like that in a store. Dang dog ate half my almost ripe tomatoes this week. I was able to get a few before she got to them.

It was great to celebrate Brexit 1776 with family and friends at the lake. Water and July 4th just go together. Judging by the number of folks hanging out on piers around the neighborhood, massive boat traffic and HUGE waves, I think everyone agrees.
Grandson Jack got in on the action by arranging our fruit dish as an American Flag. Salute!!

Lot of action in the water. I enjoy that part. July 4th is either A/C or water, and make the trip in between as quickly as possible.

Even got my Mom over to the lake for the 4th. They are having a laugh over something on the iPhone!

Quite a Year for Maters
I have not wanted to bore everyone with pictures of my tomatoes, but they have been doing great. Here is what I picked yesterday. Second picture shows how much they turn red overnight.

And lots still left on the vines!

The heat has played havoc with my little tractor. While bush hogging I had to raise the hood to help air flow and keep the tractor from overheating.

Since it was happening so much I decided something had to be done. So I removed the battery and air filter so I could clean out radiator with a hefty stream. The radiator looked like a bee hive, and definitely benefited from the pressure wash. I hope this takes care of the problem.

And the reason we Habitat. I think the grand kids will have some deer to take aim on this year. We have gotten pictures of good numbers at the Bull Pen and Mandy Hollow

Even got some with horns, nothing to write home about, but potential

How many legs are in this picture?

When I get an email from the cell camera at night, I am fooled each time with the "ghost buck" between the trees in the background!

When I began habitat work on Mandy Hollow, one of the challenges was to "close off" some wide open spaces. The area had been used for hay field and grazing pasture so thickness of brush, trees and shrubs were not the order of the day. I needed to provide some screening and security within the old pasture. I documented some of that process on the old forum, but thought it would be interesting to show some before and after pictures here. Three areas are shown below

lak...Thought of you last night. I made a mater/cucumber/onion/olive and feta cheese salad dressed with a little ranch and balsamic dressing. Man was it good! Local grocer carries heirloom tomatoes. While I don't grow em myself, the heirlooms have the same wonderful taste as what I remember from the garden as a kid. One of the few things from the garden that can't be grown commercially to produce the same taste as home grown is definitely tomatoes.

Looks like the grandkids had a great time at the lake over the 4th. Memories they will never forget.

I had the same problem with my little Kubota tractor overheating. I changed the thermostat and that fixed it. My radiator looked liked yours. I should probably spray it out too.

I agree. I am amazed, and a little bit worried, that watermelons, cantaloupes, grapes, strawberries, and you name it are so good these days whether from Publix, Sams, Costcos, Winn Dixie, etc. Worried at what they are doing to them to get such consistency.
But, yes, the Home Grown Tomato stands on its own! Love my mater sandwich, and got so many friends who are hooked on heirloom tomatoes. Now I can start charging!

Used my little Kioti a lot yesterday and today with no problems. Get that heavy duty sprayer out and spray from fan side out!

Whenever my Kubota starts to get hot I know the screen needs to be cleaned. Amazing difference in your place. Hard work has paid off. I always enjoy your family pics and what a blessing to have mom with the family.
