I went up to the farm this weekend.Last weekend of turkey season. Although I've lost the fire to hunt turkey, my hunting buddy still loves the hunt,so he came along. I like to scratch the ground and put in some hidey hole plots. Right on schedule the buffalo gnats showed up. Having inhaled a few pounds of the in the past, I had several head nets on hand to slow them down. The locals swear by vanilla extract as a repellent. I have not had any luck with the deet based stuff. What do you like? I bet a lot of us have stories of huge black clouds surrounding our heads. I had a turkey I shot over my shoulder once, no head net, and got lost! A very miserable 3 hours and a confrontational bull in a pasture ,with a black cloud trying to invade every orifice. I'll never forget that day.
