I already put down quite a bit of urea right before planting, but I'll try putting down some more here in a few weeks and see how it does.

yea give them urea when planting and again in 30 days with the urea and they will explode. Hopefully. But they do like some heat. Good luck, all looks good regardless .

I got two of my clover/alfalfa fields sprayed yesterday. I used a mixture of Clethodim, Butyrac, and foliar fertilizer. I would have liked to have sprayed them earlier but the rains we’ve been getting every other day has kept me off the fields. I don’t ever remember a summer where we’ve gotten this much rain.View attachment 13324

Funny what a couple miles does - we had good rains - but only one day that was serious - some of the days you got inches we got nothing. Boy you got it though..
I’ve never sprayed like that before - is it for grasses and do you have good luck with the foliar fertilizer??

Yes it's for the grasses and the broadleafs as well. This is actually my first time using this spray combo and I'm hoping it does the trick for me. I've seen and talked to others that have had great results with it. Hopefully within the next two weeks I'll have an update on how it does.

I got my final field planted today. This little plot is my favorite on the farm because its only 500 yards from my house. Real easy to get in and out of this set without spooking any deer, and I've arrowed two of my biggest deer right from that silver maple you can see directly across the field.
I put in 35 pounds of oats, 20 pounds of rye, 10 pounds pf austrian winter peas, 5 pounds of red clover, and 4 pounds of daikon radish. 100 pounds of urea, and 100 pounds of 10-20-20 were disced in beforehand as well. Absolutely perfect moisture in the soil today which is very rare this time of year. Hoping this field will do very well this year.

One of my favorite past times is rock picking. I'm pretty sure that I spend more time picking rocks than I do actually planting.
Our place was a potato farm in the early 1900's so its chock full of rocks. The previous owners said that their father didn't want them to pick any rocks because the potatoes liked having them in the ground. Not sure how true that is.

Dont know if there is anything about rocks and potatoes but my place had potatoes planted in the few fields around my place in the early 1900s, which we have no shortage of rocks. If it is true i should look into planting some spuds, because they should grow like crazy here..

My LC mix plot that I put in two weeks ago is doing quite well. The abundance of rain is helping out quite a bit.

I finally got a chance yesterday to do some maintenance at my place. It’s been difficult with a 2-1/2 year old son and a pregnant wife at home so I’ve been pretty lax with the things I want to do at the farm.
This is an area that I’ve been meaning of clearing and turning into a new food plot. It was simply just junk poplar trees and the deer and turkeys weren’t utilizing it for anything.

It was about 100 trees so my body is feeling it today but it’s gonna turn into a really nice field when it’s done.

I had a pretty uneventful season here at home and never saw any mature shooters. I didn’t actually put much time in hunting as I knew I was going to Kansas for my bi yearly trip and didn’t want to push my luck with the better half seeings that I’d be gone for two weeks during thanksgiving.
Well, I had a pretty good hunt and ended up taking probably the highest scoring deer I’ll ever take.
He ended up grossing 174-6/8” and has a 21-1/4” spread for reference.
It was unreal how many mature deer that I saw and passed on several deer in the 150” range and more than a dozen in the 130” range. I know this doesn’t really pertain to my property tour, but it kind of does simply because it’s what kept me away from it.

Yes a big congratulations on a great hunt Bowhunter. That is a super deer for sure. Were you specifically after that one? I ask because passing on several 150's means you had something in mind. Also like what you did to those poplars. What a natural food plot that could make for a few years if left alone you know if you were too busy to get to finishing it right away.
