2020 Native Habitat improvement thread!

Seeing all this big machine operation posted lately, I thought I better balance it with some elbow grease. We put 15 dwarf chinquapin oaks and a dozen Allegheny chinquapins in the ground this week. They were seedlings; we usually plant more knowing that not all will make it, but this year we went the route of tree tubes hoping to have a very high success rate of growth. Dco’s in my experience are tough as all get out, but this is our first go with the Allegheny’s. Also picked up two more sheds while working. That makes 8 sheds out of our lower barn plot this year. And to think I’ve never found a single shed in a food plot before this year, crazy!

I planted a few more AC that I forgot I ordered last weekend also and moved a few fruit trees.Know what you mean about sheds,I have picked up 9 and haven't walked any timber all in food plots and I may have picked up 2-3 in last 10 years in plots.Everything looks great. Are you getting the rain we are west of you

Yeah, we finally got the ground firm enough to drive off the gravel a bit and then it went and rained over an inch last night.

What did you have planted in that plot?

It’s a big 2.5 acre area with a combination of 2+ year old Alice and ladino clover in most of it, 1/3 acre mix of dwarf Essex rape, purple tops and groundhog forage radish, and 1/3 acre ww/wr.
The only things new this year were the winter wheat added to the cereal grain and the brassicas.

Got about 5 acres of old field burned off this weekend. Looking forward to seeing how it responds when I get back there for turkey season in three weeks!
