Are You Skeered?

Our baseball team traveled in our coaches cargo van. The starting pitcher sat in the passenger seat. The rest of us sat on our gloves in the back. Different time indeed.

That’s great, our coach would load us all up in the back of his truck after a big win and take us to Dairy Queen, after we drove down the main drag of our one horse town hootin and hollerin.

for those that say this is too dramatic. Virginia is taking second amendment rights away in this pandemic. Michigan says you can’t use your own property, see your own relatives or even buy flowers. New York says life as you know it will never be the same, accept it and deal with it. Yes we are at that point. It’s entirely possible to be safe, protect yourself and others and have good hygiene without giving up life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
 
Speaking of the freedoms of yesteryear I let the boys ride in the back of my truck the other day when we were out by the farm. They thought it was the greatest thing. When I explained to them that when I was a kid it was commonplace and we did it all the time, my oldest asked us why we couldn't anymore. I said, well it can be dangerous, to which he replied, well wasn't it dangerous back then? The best answer I could muster was that it was a different time then.....boy was it.

It’s dangerous now because the government has taught you to fear it. They have conditioned us through the media to believe riding in the back of a pickup equals certain death. Just like they have with this virus. And now that they have social media and cell phone leashes it’s even easier. Call me crazy and call me tinfoil hat, but I have been in “those” meetings.

Can’t even turkey hunt on your own property in WA state, add them to the list. They canceled turkey season and fishing state wide.

Completely legal in Hawaii (over a certain age). I do cringe watching people lean against their tailgate on the highway though. Kinda strange to have a seatbelt law but allow riding in the back of a truck.

Funny I was thinking w the truck talk how so many were not lucky enough to go down the road in a vehicle w a front bench seat. And their gf at the moment riding right beside them. They talk of texting and driving but many of us were multitasking long before cell phones. Shifting gears on the car and shifting gears elsewhere .... if you know what I mean. LOL

Reminded me of teenage years in a 69 Chevy with 3 on the tree:)
 
When I was a kid most every car trip we took was in the back of an open pickup bed...no room in the small single cab Datsun for all of us.

Dad had a blue one, stick shift. He had a long drive to work everyday and got it when the gas prices went through the roof. I’m not sure I ever saw the inside of it either. Had over 230,000 miles on it when the head gasket blew. That was unheard of back then and also pretty uncommon was owning metric wrenches and sockets! Now what would a guy do without a 10mm socket and wrench!!!

My dad and brother both had one...they were called “li’l Hustler” trucks...single cab, 4 speed...

It’s been going on since April 6th here and I went 1 time and had a lone longbeard come in and I just couldn’t shoot it that early in season...may be a little hungrier next time I go...lol
 
Flood of memories came back looking at that pic. That's what I drove until my senior year in high school. Gold "Lil Hustler". Loved that lil thing.
Those 2 little trucks my family had were probably the best pickups we ever had! Those things were impossible to kill and if they hadn’t been sold long ago I am sure we would still be driving them. I wish I could find one again! I have one but under the Nissan moniker...

I think they would sell...I have had my green one since 1997 and most every time I drive it someone offers to buy it. Little Nissan and Toyota pickups get bought as soon as they are offered for sale. I use my big diesel truck to tow and my Nissan for anything else I need a pickup bed for. Mine is a 5 speed manual and I love shifting gears!
 
Some of you guys are getting old. I’ve always been a Jeep person but did have a Mazda pickup manual and ran the wheels off it. Great truck. Guess I’ve gotten soft since now have to have ac and now even have heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. Yes I’m officially a ...you know. Still miss my bench seats tho I’d prob get a cramp.

When I was in college (2003) I bought a fixed up 1988 S-10 2wd stick shift regular cab pickup. I think I paid $1800 for it. I loved that thing, but it just wasn't enough truck for my business at the time. I wouldn't mind having something like that again some day.
