Working at the Farm - Took a few I-Phone Pics

I agree 100%. I've been trading 15 acres of fields to a local farmer to hay in return for some minor food plot work, but it hasn't really paned out as expected. He planted the first year on October 1st, lost most of his seed, and hasn't worked or cut the fields but once in the two years since then. I think he's just busy working 40 on a day job and can't find time to do it all.

So, my plan it to convert a 12 acre field to half clover, half cover. Another farmer wants to lease it for crops, but we already have so many around us that I feel it would best be used otherwise. It should be fun filling in a blank slate.

Thanks. What generally happens here is that part of them stick around, but the other part will relocate as the rut approaches. It may or may not be the best deer that leaves - it can happen either way.

If a bachelor group has only 2 or 3 deer, I feel that we have a good chance of all of them being around at some point during the season.

One year the best deer I had disappeared from camera two days before gun season and reappeared two days after season closed. The next year I killed him on the second day of season. Last year my booner had been gone from trail cams for quite some time. A guy 2.5 miles from me had him on camera 4 days before he was back at my place and I harvested him.

Over the years, I've been lucky enough to get pictures of the same deer over multiple years quite a bit.

I have my food plots in for this year except for overseeding a clover patch with wheat and then mowing. Hopefully I will do that next week. As you can see below, my NWSG cover is coming on strong this year. The top of that shovel handle is chest high on me. This isn't very attractive to deer right now, but when the leaves fall and the temps drop, this becomes a gold mine.

Beans

I dumped 25 gallons of apples from my yard out for the deer at my 20 acres place today. No trees set over there.

Lots of beans at both places. Below is neighbor's bordering my NWSGs.

Some cute little guys - love the stocking feet on that one.

I removed a threat to them this morning.

Only two of the three big ones showed up on camera this week. They have gone nocturnal - probably due to bow hunters using 22 rifles like they normally do around here. These two are mature and on our list for this year.

Got some nice young deer too that I'm hoping make it through until next year.

My dad bleached out the deadhead I found on the creek. He did a good job.

This used to be fescue, and I turned it into a jewelweed patch. Pretty nice huh?

Thanks my friend. Up until this year, the old 100 acre property has shown the best bucks. However, we took the two best ones off of it last year, so we are in somewhat of a rebuilding mode there this time. But, we have at least four different 3-year-olds there with extreme potential to blow up into big ones next year. My biggest deer this year (so far) are down the road 4 miles away at the new 20 acre spot.

The soybeans usually get picked before we do much hunting, so movement in hunting season isn't affected much. I think the big plus of soybeans is the extra nutrition during the summer months. I know that the overall heard health and rack size has improved a bunch since the soybean farming has started.

Right now I'm looking forward to the rain we have forecasted on Monday through Wednesday. I have seed in the ground just waiting for a good drenching. We aren't in a severe drought like some folks, but we are very dry compared to normal.

PS - Dad called me this morning. He took out another coyote at his place just up the road. They had rolled the hay yesterday, and the yote was checking it out.

My NWSGs are rank this year, and these pics were before the Indian Grass bolted. I have my shooting lanes mowed.
