Hunted this stand Sunday morning. Saw every deer I was hoping to see except Big Boy. But it's still early and the best weeks lay ahead. He seems to have a relatively small range and hopefully we get a crack at him when we open up camp next week!

No, the good eyes reflect/glow.

Yep, just went thru all my pics and the left eye shows the same in every one. Just adds to the story and character of this buck. Thanks for pointing this out, and congrats on the big Muley!

Congrats on the property. Connecting with Big Boy will definitely be easier if he comes in on the blind side :) Nice looking buck. Good luck on him..

Went back thru my pics and found these from last year. Could be Big Boy.

Dad harvested his first Kentucky deer on 11/16/17! We knew this deer well and were hoping to get a crack at him. Big Boy is still on camera at night but no sightings from the stand. Hopefully, I can get after him again mid December.

Haven’t made it back to the property since November trip. Work stinks!! But my buddy made it out to our place for a last hunt of the season and card pull. No signs of Big Boy. Will have to relocate a few cameras to try and find him again. Did get some cool videos off an active scrape, which I can’t figure out how to load, if at all possible. One buck is a future target buck, an 11 pointer named Patch Adams (3.5yo ?) Had pics of him since September with the most recent picture being from 12/11/17. Below are a few pictures of him. Last picture I think might be Big Boy.

Wanted to pass on the plans for early 2018 as well as some pictures of a buck I have yet to mention, R2G2. He was on camera during September/October. Remembering what Native Hunter had mentioned, I went ahead and ordered 4 Bevans Favorite from Century Farm Orchards. Plan on putting two in top field and two in the bottom. I was a little skeptical about putting fruit trees in the bottom (deep hollow) but I have sun, native crab apples are present, and I already planted two Kiefer Pears there that seem to be doing well. Going to frost seed the top field with clover during February trip. Then during turkey season trip will screen the field and overseed with probably a cereal grain and brassicas. Bottom field will get the same Southern States mix from last year. Whatever projects we take on I’ll try to capture on the forum.

Cool characteristic and on both sides too!

Yea, pretty cool buck. I don't use products often but every time I put out some Big & J or other smell goods to try to pick up some more pictures, he is the first deer to show up almost immediately. He then disappears!

Weather prevented any food plotting during turkey trip but we did manage to get fruit trees in the ground. 4 Bevans Favorite apple trees and 2 Deer Magnet Persimmons. Had uncle and cousins in camp for cheap labor!

Buddy just got back from the property after spending a long weekend there with his outdoor mentor, his stepfather. They nuked, seeded, cultipacked bottom field with 20lbs of forage beans, 10lbs of cowpeas, and 10lbs of buckwheat. Got another Deer Magnet Persimmon in the ground, planted Japanese Vining Honeysuckle in a blow down along the creek, pulled cards, and did some odds n ends around the cabin. Great growth on all fruit trees, and a few young bucks have started to show themselves. Comparable amount of does to last year but no fawns yet. Next trip’s card pull should be telling. 67575015-0BB2-4450-8BA4-FA80365C11E4.jpeg

Just got through looking at this thread and impressed with your property and deer. I love eastern KY. I work over that way from time to time and always enjoy the mountains. Keep up the good work!

End of summer update...I made two trips to the property since my buddy planted the bottom field early June. First trip was around 4th of July with my two young daughters. Buddy had a good kill in the bottom field but growth was thin. I think we seeded a little light and the deer were on it quick. So I overseeded on July 2nd with WI Power Plant and girls ran the cultipacker through.

I then spread 200lbs of 10-10-10. During this trip all of the fruit trees were doing great and I even had to re-cage the Deer Magnet Persimmons because they exploded through their “starter,” cages.

Had some fawns on camera and a few pictures of who I think is “Handlebars.”

2nd Trip was weekend of August 18th. Bottom field exploded and every single plant in the mix was identifiable. Forgot to take a picture of the exclusion cage!

Neighbor was kind enough to come bulldoze a decent sized bench top we call “Honey Hole.” This is the location that my buddy took his buck, but very few deer have used it since that first season. I dropped the big trees and dozer cleared and leveled. The boys hand picked large debris while I drug chain harrow. Then seeded small bag of WI Secret Spot with some added sunflower and then cultipacked and lightly fertilized.

Hung 5 stands and did some trail maintenance.

Have a good buck on camera but it is concerning that we have had only 5 different bucks on camera all summer especially with all the food on the property. We have this new palmated shooter, “Handlebars,” a young 8, a young 6, and a spike on camera. Fingers crossed that more show up especially the ones who were around for each of the last two years.

Staying positive though and I’ve enjoyed catching up on the forum this past week. It keeps the fire lit!!
