It looks like a type of fern, usually a sign of too much shade and acidic soil. Deer almost never eat ferns.
That picture was taken in a shady spot but I also have some in the middle of a spot I'm planning on turning into a plot. The gly looks like it did pretty good on everything else. The patches are in the far end of the second picture
Just wondering if I should hit it with 2,4D or something. Need an ID to know what might work.

Gly should kill them if you had the mix strong enough. It can take ferns several weeks to die, those look almost like they are still dying. You could spot spray with more gly or try something like Dicamba, aka Banvel.
