Love these threads. Two November's ago I went with a friend of mine in northwest Nebraska to get scions from some old apple trees (two different varieties) in a Pine Ridge canyon that he picked apples off of when he was a kid (he's in his late 70's now). Wildfires in the Ridge have hit them more than once and they were barely hanging on. We got enough scions that I was able to graft 15--seven of one variety and eight of the other. I took 8 of them (4 each) back out there this past deer season. He will be planting them this spring to continue the history---hopefully in a spot less susceptible to wild fire.
