To be named later Montana farm

I was too late to apply for regular tags this year, and I don’t qualify for landowner tags yet. The alternates list was my only shot at a tag. After the randomization I was almost dead last. Doh!
Okay I got you, it’s basically a waiting list.

Cut - First time I’ve logged in here for a while. Congrats on the land purchase! Gonna enjoy following along on your journey.

Check PerfectCircle.farm for tree recommendations. Buzz is in Vermont, so zone 4. He's been trying all sorts of stuff to see what survives. What kind of annual rainfall do you get there? Could be a limiting factor too.

Thanks, MM. I’m headed out to Montana Saturday to meet the new house tenant and to get the house ready for him. I’m also going to put another trail cam out.

On Monday, I’m going to meet with the local NRCS agent to see what programs are available. I’m also hoping to meet with Ducks Unlimited Montana.

When I get back next week, deer season starts Friday in SC. Lots going on.

I arrived in Montana today after two easy flights from South Carolina. Even got upgraded to first class!

The house has no water because the well pump isn’t working. I’m not handy enough to fix it myself, and I couldn’t find parts locally at the hardware store. Luckily, an electrician is coming out at 7 am tomorrow to work on it.

I walked around the farm a good bit just scoping it out. Now I’m watching a movie and looking out the windows - there are 30+ deer in the alfalfa and 3 pheasants walked by the kitchen window while I was cooking supper.

One of the bucks is a giant but he’s too far away for me to see clearly. This place is heaven.

Today I’ve seen: ducks, geese, turkeys (a group of 9 Jakes), deer, pheasants, a hawk, a massive brown squirrel, and a stray cat hanging around my house.

The cat might be the most valuable of the whole bunch! Mouse catchers are pretty important with a house on the prairie!

2 cats! Another one showed up this morning. They are both very friendly. The gray cat who showed up this morning was rolling around on the gravel road next to a rooster pheasant (who was not worried about the cat at all).

Still no water. I have to drive to Billings tomorrow to get a starter capacitor for the pump.
