Are you going to hunt there this fall?
I’m guessing everything about your new place is going to get under your skin very quickly in a good way. What is the elevation of your place?I was too late to apply for deer tags this year (non-resident), but I’ve applied to be on the alternates list if a tag becomes available. I can definitely go bird hunt, however. The place is loaded with pheasants.
I met two neighbors and the farmer leasing the fields. All super nice people who already feel like friends. It was a great, short trip.

In that climate, there are going to be some BIG bodied deer running around — freezer fillers!Look at the belly on this fella.

Finding a local guy you can trust could be a long-term valuable assetI spoke to a nice Amish fella today about doing some work on the house. It really needs new windows and some interior paint.
Explain the tag numbers, are there 1550 tags?Nothing cool to report. I’m spending $20k to replace doors and windows and trying to find a tenant to rent the house. Hay has been cut, fence is being mended, irrigation is supposed to be installed soon.
Still lots of does and fawns on camera. Oh, and I drew #1532 out of #1550 for the alternate deer license, so don’t think I’ll be deer hunting this year.![]()

That's too bad, new land and no tags to hunt it?Nonresident Alternate's List | Montana FWP
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks gets a number of unused nonresident Combination licenses (Big Game Combo, General Elk and General Deer) returned by customers each year. FWP resells these returned licenses through our Alternates List.fwp.mt.gov
I was too late to apply for regular tags this year, and I don’t qualify for landowner tags yet. The alternates list was my only shot at a tag. After the randomization I was almost dead last. Doh!
