The Playground

Sold my fur haul on Saturday. A small bobcat $25. Beaver $6. Five muskrats = $1.50 per. Grand total = $38.50. I wonder why nobody traps anymore! Buyer said coons were back up to $5-10 for really good ones. At least paid for the gas and taught the kid not to be wasteful.
1972-75, muskrat were $7, red fox $70. How much would that be in today's dollars, and what lengths would trappers go to if prices hit those levels?
(A tidbit of info; in the 1970s:Acrylic polymers created the first fully synthetic fur coats and faux fur became widely accessible and affordable, however, the environmental damage caused by microfibers shed from faux fur is a continuing concern)

Little wet but it was the only weekend I had. Started around 55% humidity by the time we were done we were in the low 30's and time to be done. Burned about 45 acres in about 3 hours. Picked up a few bonus acres on a jump over so I appreciated the standing water in the ditches then. Had the kid lighting and me on fire line duty. Should pull the turkeys in.

Kid got his bird opening weekend. 23 lb two year old at 15 yards strutting and gobbling.

I went back up last weekend and got this one to come straight off the roost and marched in. First multiple beard gobbler I have shot in quite a few years. Been running a little harder, feathers on the breast were a little thin. 20 lb 3 year old bird.

Moved the wagon out of the bottom. Spray and prayed some milo and sunflowers around it. Hopefully get it tilled up and done right on a fall blend.

Top killed some olives with the fire. Hit the ones with leaves with a mix of round up and triclopyr.

Nothing is better than taking a youngster out spring gobbler hunting! IMO this even beats deer hunting together.
