The Massey

Damn that sucks. Really cool rack, would be neat if you got it. Were you and the family hunting him?

Not really, just because he up a disappeared. We never got a trail cam pic of him, but we did see him while deer watching out of the barn 3 times.

Great shot. But probably bounced off point of shoulder blade and went backwards. I’ve had it happen. Only thing you did wrong imo is you didn’t wait for front left leg to move forward. It happens. That’s what makes bow hunting great. It’s not easy, even when you make a perfect shot.

That buck is dead I am betting probably less than 400 yards I would listen for crows or go out about midnight and listen for coyotes. That dark blood looks like liver and then you said lung blood also.

I'd agree if coyotes didn't molest him. If early that evening the coyotes got after him he may have traveled a bit before expiring. Had a buddy with video of a cow elk he shot. Very close to same shot placement. Watched it over and over. Never recovered. Strange things happen. Really hope you recover the rack soon.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Moved some stands on public ground Saturday and stumbled across a few sheds, including the heaviest I’ve found in a few years. Squirrels had already gotten to it some.

Nice finds!
I found my 4th yesterday in 2 walks. Way early for me to start looking but sometimes I can't help myself. Still seeing plenty of bucks carrying both sides.

Looking good and congrats on the finds.

So far my cameras are showing ours still holding strong. That could change when I check them again in a few days.

A buddy and I have a little more work to do on another couple pieces of public tomorrow possibly. Maybe we'll get lucky and pick another horn or two?

No sheds picked up today, but a buddy and I did get 3 sets ready for next fall on some pretty remote public. Hoping to look back on this next fall, after shooting a giant, and see what day we prepped the trees. :D

It was a pretty disappointing season on the Massey, the deer numbers really dropped. I think the pressure in the neighborhood moved the deer out. This has been somewhat of an issue in the past, but it really shut things down this season more so than normal.
On a positive note, the t&m foodplots continue to impress on some of the other properties we hunt.

There's nothing quite like shooting a nice rack on remote public land

Those doe are after that food plot. This past winter our plots were grazed to the bone also. Gonna enlarge for next year, if we can afford seed, diesel and fertilizer!!
Is that a recent picture?

How many deer are you allowed to take in a season? If I had that many and tags to go with it, I might have a pallet of canning jars delivered.

I had hoped we might get a more opened up bag limit this season by me, but it isn't looking good at all. Our winter is starting to get long and painful up here.

We shoot on average 3 or 4 does a year. That pic on one of the places we hunt is a little misleading; it's some distance to crop fields and the deer move in on the plot in late season every year. Hence, the reason why we increased the size of the plot to 1.5 acres. It amazes me how well it stands up to the deer numbers in late winter each year. Throughout the majority of the year, we won't have more than 7 or 8 deer in a pic.

Oops, I edited the pic so it would not go crazy when I posted it and I cut off the date. Those pics were taken in the last couple of weeks.

Had a fun and productive day. Spent the morning getting some tree pruning done around the house and then went on a walk with Dawna and picked up some sheds. We walked over on her folks land. Dawna had the eagle eye today and spotted all but one, but I spotted the biggest. :) None of them were real big, so there should still be some good ones laying around over there.

We had another productive day shed hunting. The biggest is a deer that topped my list at the Massey this fall. The last pic we got of him was in September and then he went awol. I guess his right shed gives more evidence that cameras don’t tell the whole story. I was shocked to pick up his shed by the lower barn plot! He dropped it in the last 9 days, I walked right by there last week.

These others were picked up over at the in-laws place again. I took Audrey and a couple nephews.

This is a fresh horn, but the oak leaves have really been coming down the last couple days. I was lucky to spot it.

Not bad for a day’s walk. I believe we’re up to 18 for the year now. Time is going to be a little harder to come by soon, trees are coming and I need to get some tsi work done too.
