Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

Saturday evening my friend Doug came up from Estill County to help me with a burn. I dropped down my east line and lit it up.

Then we lit it all up counterclockwise.

The next morning, Sunday, I mopped up the perimeter and let the fire storm below do it's thing.

I was glad that I had the forethought to rake out the outhouse.

I text forester Bill that there was fire on the plateau Saturday evening but the spotter plane circled me 3 times on Sunday and called in the troops with the bulldozer. They showed in the 23rd hour of a 24 hour burn to put the wildfire out.

Are you saying they showed up even though you scheduled a controlled burn and after the fire was out? Must've been a slow day at the office...

My text to Bill was received but he was on a fire down in Lawrence county out of cell and word didn't get back to the office in time. The fire was still working with 88 degrees and high winds. I was in taking a nap when forester Matthew showed up leading the charge, I asked him if they were just out looking for something to do. He said that the plane called it in and they had to put the fire out. I laughed at him and explained the situation and we consulted with the warden Van and we all had a good laugh. Turns out there was a sawmill log yard on fire fairly close by so their trip wasn't wasted.

The guy in the plane should have been able to see that it was a controlled burn. At least you can sleep soundly knowing that someone is watching over you at all times and that your tax dollars are at work.

So what did we find so funny? Last year I had 70 acres burning that I was unaware of till I put my drone up, 15 acres escaped and burning on my neighbors property. The wildfire crew came up the ditch on the other end of my property, looked at my fire, said oh that's just George, and left. By around 1am I got the fire on my neighbors put out.

Yep, they always tell me, if I need them call. Some of my neighbors miles away still smell smoke and think that the final judgement day has come.

I have been hell on hickories and maples lately making the sun shine. I cut down a maple forest to find a chestnut oak forest. I have 7 days left before bat season.

good eye, taking some of those out too, tried to hinge them.

Bat season runs 4/1 - 11/15, can't cut trees over 6" diameter per my government contract.

G
Wow! Here in Louisiana, we’re just not allowed to kill bats. We can destroy their habitat all we want.

These crazy bat rules have me all confused. First of all, I thought bats were made out of trees. Second, I thought they were made in kentucky aka Louisville Slugger 🤣
Okay, okay, I am just messing again with you, george. We have to protect those bats or else the crazy mosquitoes will take over!
