Southern guys?

On my last southern hunt my guide swore by Best Hunting app vs weather to predict movement. He actually didn't like real cold days because the deer didn't move till mid day

Up north we look for cold fronts.

I have a upcoming bow hunt in MS. Weather will be in mid 70's but Best Hunting app is 4-6 deer

What's interesting is the New and Full moon times on Best Hunting app seem to be best. The old moon dials had the first and last as best

Interested in your thoughts?

Not sure we are considered "southern" but here the colder the better. Trail cameras go nuts on days like today when it is major cold for us...

Out our dining room window now...there were 6 out earlier...

I agree with Native Hunter - we aren't far apart.

One except here that I have seen. When temperatures get below zero degrees for 2 or 3 days, the deer will not move except in the middle of the day. We had an ice storm about 25 years ago (using my son's age is time reference) and you could hear the deer running to the food. It was amazing.

I believe in those situations the deer normal feed schedule gets turned around. In my part of the country we might see this happen once every ten years but it does.

It is the exception to the rule - not the norm.

I like using ranulos.com as an indicator for deer movement. Type in the zip code for where you will be hunting. It works pretty well in SC.

Deer in my area move based on the Moon. When it's up, or supposed to be up, they move.

Some deer just decide to bed down right there in the wide open.....at night!

My experience I guess is a little different. Hunting on a plot the deer seldom show up early in below to way below avg temps esp when there is a heavy frost. They seem to start showing up just as the frost is melting off. If you have a little chum out then they seem to show up on a more normal time frame in relation to the moon charts.

I had one hunt at 10F in MS. We did very poorly in morning. The deer didn't move. Looks like it will be 10F above normal when we are at Giles Island. I bet we see a lot of deer but few good ones

Rut should be on and we are coming out of way below avg temps. But you see really good movement as rut should be cranking there.
