Sorghum planted

I hadn't considered that...just an empty "hull"?

I just snapped a picture while walking through and didn't really examine it.

Just got my plot put in last night. Mine is mostly for bird cover, but the deer like it.

From what I hear, palatability depends on the variety. I had a 2 acre field last year that was used, but not heavily. Had lots of heads that never got eaten. Across the creek I had 3 small plots in a different variety that the deer supposedly love, and it was hammered and gone early.
This year I'm trying a mix of the two.

I agree,it looks like pods are empty. Most of the farmers planted last week here in SC Kansas so I will plant mine in a couple weeks so that the kernals will be green late sept and early october.usually milo gets heaving use when green and firm then slacks off some unless wiped out from turkeys, coons and blackbirds. It is a go too food for early ML season and can be even better than soybeans. After it's all gone I brush hog and leave until the next planting season
