Ram Pump for watering needs

Has anyone built a ram pump to water trees or plots? It looks pretty simple to build and requires no electricity and little to no maintenance. This diagram shows a waterfall, but it could be a pipe from a pond dam, spring, creek, etc.

If you are very serious about a ram pump go to Rife Rams website, they have been making rams for a long time, we had one of theirs on our farm for 25 years and it pumped water to our barnyard water trough 500' from the spring 24-7, a 1" steel pipe flowing with cold spring water in the barn all of the time, the perfect place to get a drink on a hot summer day. A Rife ram costs more than $2000, plus the cost of setup.
