Poplar growth in food plot

This past winter I cut several poplar trees that were over hanging a food plot. Now I have poplar shoots growing up in the food plot. What is the best way to get rid of them?

it will depend on their size. Small ones - mowing should work. Sapling size you may have to cut and treat the stump or spray. The thing is you have to kill them and you either do that thru a chemical or getting them to consume the stored energy in their root system.
