Defunding law and order is such a ludicrous idea, and even though I don't want to wish bad on anyone, the people who dreamed up that one should be moved to an experimental city as a real life instructional course on how this works in practice. History clearly shows what happens in a lawless society. Soon there is no society left, all government and authority collapse, until eventually things go full circle and a warlord takes over and imposes order and a government again.
Military, Police, Firefighters, EMT's, Teachers, and the like all deserve far more praise and $$ than they get. Instead we (as a society) prefer to spend money on some body who plays a sport! And we wonder why our society has gone to $h!t!
I would add to the Chicago scenario as I lived there for 10 years. Most of those years there was a teachers union on strike. Who suffered? The kids. I also bought a boat from a metal shop teacher who was making 74,000/year. That was 35 years ago. I didn't have kids at the time and can't speak to the quality of education but corruption and ghost payrolls were commonplace at the time.I would politely argue that the best paid teachers in big cities like Chicago and Baltimore turn out the most poorly educated students. I don’t think paying teachers as a whole more will solve any problems, but holding individual teachers accountable for their results would, and making it possible to fire poor teachers would help even further. What other job in the entire world provides tenure after only four years of work?
My wife is a public high school teacher And anytime she complains about her modest salary I remind her that it’s not bad pay and great benefits for nine months of work per year.

I agree to an extent; most of the good teachers have had their hands completely tied by the lack of discipline in the schools and parents who have forgotten how to instill respect for authority into their children. Not all parents mind you, but many. Not wanting to get the conversation off track though...I would politely argue that the best paid teachers in big cities like Chicago and Baltimore turn out the most poorly educated students. Totally agree. And just because people have those job titles doesn't mean they are not flawed or that there are not some bad apples out there. You weed out the bad apples.....you don't throw out the entire barrel!I agree to an extent; most of the good teachers have had their hands completely tied by the lack of discipline in the schools and parents who have forgotten how to instill respect for authority into their children. How far away are you or was he from McNairy county? That was Bufford Pusser territory back in that era.My dad was a policeman from the late 60’s to the early 80’s. He has told me stories of what was allowed back then. I’m surprised people kept getting in trouble from the stories he’s told me. He also had 3 of his front teeth knocked out by a fella. The fella didn’t fair to well.
