Planting a food plot after crop insurance takes affect

First of all, I am new here and this is my first post. Anyways, 3/4 of the fields that I hunt around does not appear that they will get planted. Spoke with the Famer today and he said that they will be getting crop insurance agents out soon. My question is, does anyone have any experience coming back behind all of this and putting some food plots in? Would this affect anything the farmer gets back from insurance?

Welcome to the Forum from Texas ! I imagine the farmer could tell you that, but common sense tells me that if it’s not a cash crop it would not affect the insurance. When you’re dealing with the gubment though, common sense may not carry the day........

I agree, I believe as long as its not harvested. Probably limited to "cover crop" type plants but most your late summer early fall plantings should be in that boat. I plan on putting some turnips in mine if not under water.

It will definitely have to a good mix of stuff. Since I will have a lack of crop fields for them to hit, I am going to assume they will tear up the plots pretty quickly. Maybe a combo of oats, clover and turnips or radishes. Thoughts?

The rules are changing by the hour. The farmer may be offered an incentive (undetermined and undefined at the moment) to plant a cover crop. I guess you can look at that a couple of ways. YOU might not have to plant anything to get the advantage you want. Or, if you plant a big area, it might be to the farmer's benefit. But, again, I think it's an unknown right now.
