Kaleo Hills-Property tour

Monroe. Sits nearly against Peter's Mnt which means you should be able to traverse 3 big mountains and a bunch of smaller ones, and drop on to my place. Go the AT trail and you could almost roll on to the farm. We shall meet up one day. I can't show you how to do things, but I can show you how not to and the lazy way. Those I have perfected. I think you are doing quite well from what I've seen. Thanks for showing.

We have quite a few bears around this year. I think they’re more comfortable hanging around post logging operations.

Several bucks around. I really should have used 32 GB SD cards, they fill up quick on mineral sites!

A few pictures three weeks after planting. We received 6-12 inches of rain 36 hours after planting. Looks like adding extra seed wasn’t a horrible idea.

I’m just hoping I didn’t over do it on the plot but it does look like there are more plants in the low areas so some seed likely washed down the hill as predicted. I’m also guessing some of the smaller seeds were driven into the soil too deep for germination.

I’ll get to see for myself in November.

That road will be beautiful next spring when all that clover takes off in it.

I sure hope so. I'd like to over seed any bare spots at some point. Would it be worth doing that in November? Maybe with WW?

If not, I might be out there in April, that would be my last opportunity before summer.

Right now for our area the coldest night in the 15 day forecast is 46 deg. If WW got some rain, it would be able to do a heck of a lot of growing in that time. Also, if you plant WW or Rye late and it doesn't germinate, I've seen it come up good the next spring.

I've over seeded early Nov with WR and RC into my spent brassica. WR will germinate down to the low 30s and if you have a south facing slope success would be good. Place really greening up for you . All this rain makes us look good.

That's good to know dogghr. If I make it out there in November I'll toss WR on the thin spots. We were definitely lucky to get all the rain this year. I wasn't sure what the plot would do this first year being so rough. Very happy to see something growing.

Weather is shaping up nicely for next week. Not sure I’m mentally prepared for 24 degrees, it’s gonna be fun!

Finally made it to the food plot to check the damage. The deer are definitely hammering it. I bumped 14 deer out of the cutover bedded within 200 yards of the plot. Many more deer using it I’m sure. The growth in the exclusion cage shows the deer have been selectively plucking the cereal grain from the plot and leaving the young clover alone. Some of the PTT, DER, and DR have been browsed.

The buck movement was just starting to pick up towards the end of my trip. I had 19 NOV pinned as the peak breeding time in our area based on trail cam surveys and the state predicts 22 NOV based on fetus measurements. I’m guessing that’s pretty accurate based on what I observed 10-16 NOV.

Early in the week I saw a few bucks wandering around during daylight hours but they didn’t seem too interested in the does. November 16th was cold, snowy and windy. I watched 2 young bucks harass a doe and a third cruising in the same area. Unfortunately things heat up just in time for the rifle opener.
