Island Axis Deer and hogs

The bowhunting forum seems a little slow this time of year so I thought I'd add a thread. I shot this Axis doe in Hawaii in March. We can hunt deer and all other big game all year for the most part. There are some random seasons on some state land. Very challenging with the bow and the best venison on earth! And yes, the adult deer have spots!

I'm really enjoying all the habitat improvement wisdom on this site. I don't have a property in Hawaii but will soon own land on the east coast. The information on these pages is excellent!

Axis deer are on my list, probably TX though I'd have trouble sitting still on a plane long enough for Hawaii!

Yeah it's a long trip. Of course that probably really helps the population!

This is what the bucks look like. This one is from 2016, nice deer but not a giant.

Very nice weekender! The deer look to be good size. How much do the deer there weigh?

A mature buck weighs 150-170 pounds on the hoof. Some of the really big bucks might make 200. Similar to average southern whitetail.

This was an old buck, probably north of 160 pounds on the hoof.
