How many plan to walk away from QDMA?

I love this new forum. It is great to see all the knowledgeable people that have migrated here. The willingness to share expertise is greatly appreciated by me, and I suspect numerous other "rookie" land managers. Previously, I had navigated to another site that seemed to have developed in large part due to dissatisfaction with the QDMA organization and its forum. It became unpleasant for me to "lurk" there because of what I perceived as a strong negative undercurrent especially focused on the QDMA organization and its members. I probably am not going to renew my membership to QDMA but haven't decided as of yet. In any case, I hope that soon the membership on this site can move past the issues with the obsolete forum and its parent organization and just focus on the real issues of land stewardship and deer hunting.

Well said Kieth. I have no plans on talking about QDMA in the future and have no issue with people who still support the organization. I thought the forum was the best thing they had as far as educating people. I am all about QDM and a forum I can use as a resource in practicing that passion. This forum is shaping up nicely and I thank the gentlemen who made it happen.

I'm gone ..my two farm managers are gone ..
Just signed up after spending the past hour reading the QDMA forum. I was always a lurker and used the invaluable resources on my properties in Pa and Oh. I can't cancel my membership because I cancelled a couple of years ago when I figured out it was nothing more than a corporation chasing the almighty dollar.
I hope that at least a small portion of the habitat geniuses find their way over to deerhunterforum.

I am like many here, I only found out about qdma when I was researching for improving my habitat on my farm. That search took me to the qdma forum and a wealth of knowledge. I joined qdma to support the forum but since they disowned the forum I will no longer be a member. A lurker I could be called but post when I feel I have questions or something to add to the conversations. You former members of that forum have helped me greatly and I look forward to the future help you and I will provide each other again.

I second dogdom's comments. Very well said. QDMA forum is history. I haven't looked at in in days and probably won't ever look again. Life is always about change. Let's just focus on the seeds that have sprouted here and continue to grow it without demonizing the QDMA's decision. As for continuing my membership, I'm still undecided. I enjoy their magazine. They were the catalyst in the early days to change the mindset of shooting everything that walked with horns back in the late 80s and early 90s when we were covered up with deer but seldom saw any decent racked bucks. I used their literature to migrate a hunting club from shoot any thing that has horns to a QDM club and it worked.

I just checked into the forum today after a long vacation with no internet access and I was shocked at the "Forum Closed" message on QDMA.
It seems that fostering communication, discussion, and knowledge is much less of an interest now and that QDMA is now moving to simply pushing org and vendor messages at members and limiting member interaction. Needless to say, this dramatically alters my view of QDMA as an organization.
Many thanks to the founders of this new, independent forum for continuing to provide a community gathering place for true discussion and interaction.

I joined QDMA several years ago because of the forum. When all the habitat improvement/food plot stuff was new to me when I first bought my farm nearly ten years ago, the information on the forum was awesome and I got tons of help there. I enjoyed reading it so much that I, in turn, joined the QDMA. I am no longer a member. It is sad because had they played their cards right they could have been THE voice for all of deer hunting and been a major force like DU or the WTF.

I had hoped that once the forum closed to posting that there would be a huge amount of reads on the existing threads and there was. Some threads showed over five thousand individual reads since the forum closed to posting! Still though the QDMA organization completely closed the forum and cut everyone off from the many great ideas and management concepts posted on the hundreds of forum threads. There is not one time since they closed posting that the readers on line showed less than 300 when I checked and mostly it was way higher than that. I don't get it but that is QDMA's choice. I reviewed their new website and failed to find any new ways to communicate that were better than the forum. There is just nothing there for me now so I'm ready to start anew all in here and here alone.

Seeing the forum gone makes me angry all over again. I wonder if in the back of their minds, someone over there isn't questioning whether or not they just screwed the pooch with this move. I guess time will tell. I can't see how that new forum is going to do anything for them. I can't really see it getting much traffic.

I sent my renewal in a few months ago so they got me for another $35. Oh well, I got way more back over the years from the forum, loads more than $35 worth of great advice each year. I've been a member for about a decade and honestly my interaction with the org was about 99% on the forum. The magazine was well done but I still preferred the forum.
I've tried to take this all in and let a little time pass before making a decision. I'm actually going to a FREE seminar this Saturday put on by a local chapter here in western PA. Erich Long will be the guest speaker and will be talking about hunting & holding mature deer on small properties. Plus I'm going with a good buddy who I respect as a habitat manager and enjoy his company.
Let me tell you what I think is the final nail in the coffin for my membership. Yep, I'm still pissed about the forum and pissed about how it was handled. But I was at Walmart yesterday with the family getting their back to school supplies. I always walk through the hunting stuff, well I'm sure you all do too. I saw a very popular buck on bag clover product from one of QDMA's biggest sponsors. It was originally $11.99 but was on clearance for $4.00. It was only a 2 pound bag but $2 a pound ain't bad for a clover mix. I saw the test date was 4/16 and thought about gathering up the last 3 bags. Until I got to the line that said inert matter...39% of the 2 pound bag was inert matter. So QDMA wants $35 from people for a membership plus they want them to support their sponsors that want to charge hard working folks $12 for a 2 pound bag of clover seed that is almost a pound of inert matter. So much for the free exchange of ideas and education for the betterment of the whitetail deer. The old forum was closed down because we were freely sharing ideas and promoting cost effective ways for guys like me on a budget to do this stuff without having to buy overpriced seed, equipment, trees, etc. from QDMA sponsors.
I cannot support an organization with a mission like that. I'm tired of a lot of people in the "hunting industry" selling an empty shell of hunting to new generations of hunters who think you need to spend thousands of dollars and kill giant bucks to enjoy hunting.
