Homemade arrow saw build

I figured I would post up my homemade arrow saw build that I did. I got the idea from a user on Archerytalk that started a thread on his build. I've been wanting for a few years to purchase an arrow saw but never have just because I couldn't justify the cost for how much I would actually use it. Then I came across this idea and liked the concept and figured I'd give it a try.

Materials needed:

• Mounting board: I used an old toe board that I had leftover from when I built my basement stairs, but a 2"x6" will work.
• Harbor freight 2" mini cut off saw. http://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-mini-bench-top-cut-off-saw-62136.html
• Incra T-Track plus 36". https://www.amazon.com/Incra-TTRACKPLUS36-36-Inch-T-Track-Plus/dp/B00005NMUB
• Incra build-it brackets. You only need one, but I could only find a 2 pack. https://www.amazon.com/Build-Brackets-Fasteners-2-25-Inch-2-Pack/dp/B000W09EHS
• 2 - 1.5" screws for mounting the saw to the mounting board.
• 2" abrasive cut off wheel. http://www.ebay.com/itm/141927897071

The abrasive cut off wheels aren't a must do, but I was a little leery of using the metal blade on carbon arrows. Others have said that the metal wheel worked just fine for them.

Cost of build:

1. 2" mini cut off saw: $26.25
2. Incra T-track plus 36". $20.60
3. Incra build-it brackets. $13.25/2= $6.62
   
4. Abrasive cut off wheels. $10.90/3= $3.65

Total cost: $57.12

It doesn't really make that much dust, but I haven't only cut but a few arrows and I place my shop vac next to the saw to hopefully catch anything that gets airborne.

How much effort did you put into making sure the blade on the cutoff wheel is parallel to the arrow holder? This is the number one reason that the best arrow cutters spin the arrow.

None. I use an arrow squaring device.

I luv it, especially the mini-cutoff saw versus others that I've seen that try and mount a Dremel tool! Thanks for sharing, may have to give it a go!!

Very nice. Do you rotate the shaft as you cut, or lock it down and cut through with one stroke?

I lock it down and cut through with one SLOW stroke. I use an arrow squaring device afterwards to make sure the cut is square.

I tried it with carbon shafts and a 1/32" cut off wheel from Zoro. If I held the cut-off end while finishing the cut so it didn't whip around, I got a fairly smooth result. I pushed the cut shaft gently against the side of the wheel and got a very satisfactory result.
