We are well in to Harvey with rain all day everyday forecasted to continue and get worse the next couple of days. No complaints though as what is inconvenient for us is a disaster for others. Prayers for those in need.

That said I am house bound and restless. For those that might have wondered what deer look like on well managed ranch in N. Mexico thought I would post a few pics . I don't run cameras much down there but had 3 out for a couple of weeks and this is the flavor we are seeing this year. First pic is actually from last year but too good not to post.

Gotta love this one. Known buck. 8 yr old and very well could be the one I chase this year. This is the only pic we have of him this year. Suspect he could crack 200"

Not sure what I'm seeing here but fun to speculate. I think it may be the young buck previously posted but at a different feeder and hard to tell. Cool looking nonetheless.

Thats a tasters choice for now. Still have the 3 cameras out and hopefully a few new pics in a week or so.

I don't sell hunts . There is one neighbor of mine that sells hunts on a ranch called los Cuevas. Try googling and I'll look as well. He has a 15,000 acre ranch with good quality , nice lodge, and if you have never hunted the brush country put such on your bucket list. It may not be Waupaca county but ....

All native homegrown bucks. One of the beautiful things about Mexico where we are is the native strain of very beautiful bucks. We also have a propensity to very wide bucks in the area. One old theory is that mule deer used to be this far down and there was some cross breeding. Ultimately the mulies were pushed to the mountains leaving the whiteteails.One of the few areas left with a pure strain of whitetails unmixed by man.

Thank you for sharing your pictures Baker. They are beyond extraordinary and show a natural whitetail world I never knew even existed. Do you have poplar stands there? I just can't imagine a deer with that wide of a rack maneuvering through high stem count trees like that.

Those deer must have tremendously strong neck muscles to even hold their heads up;They must look like Brahma bulls when they bulk up during the rut!

Yes, Armondo's ranch [ las cuevas ] is game fenced. Helps with the management. Irrelevant to the hunting. He has plenty of quality bucks, is a good manager and provides a great experience. Heck, the fishing during midday is worth the price.

I just noticed that you asked if there are poplar stands there??? Kinda funny. I'll answer with a story. Years back a buddy asked if he could send a tree climbing stand down for his upcoming hunt. With a laugh the answer was yes but you also need to send a tree.

The country is mostly low brush with parts impenetrable. Very dry. Thorns, stickers, cactus, rattle snakes, lions, bobcats, coyotes by the zillions with the tallest thing being a mesquite tree. Most inhospitable. Lots of black brush, guayacan, yucca, guajillo pear cactus...mostly all legumes. It's a different world down there in most ways. The people are wonderful, the food dynamite, the weather awesome during hunting season and the hunting is over the top.

I agree irrelevant to hunting once you fence over a certain number of acres. I don't know what that minimum number of acres is but 15000 is definitively over it. Probably only situation where you can take a cull buck and make a difference. The very highest level of management.
