Rogers Outdoors now has coming soon instead of out of stock.Our local stores are giving information on shipments and lone people are buying everything that comes in.I would say from the local online auctions with new ammo I can only guess where they are doubling their money

I know for a fact that happened during the Obama “shortage”. I happened to be in a Walmart and overheard three guys talking about it, then the sporting goods manager comes in and delivers all the .22 ammo to the three to split up. I’m sure they were reselling it and kicking back to him. It never hit the shelves.

Turkey loads seem to be in short supply or sold out in anything that's cheaper than $5 a shell. Winchester Longbeard XR is sold out in the entire US.

Suddenly it turned into my lucky day.. I've got a big stock of 3 1/2" loads, but neglected the 3's for my favorite gun. Luckily I just found some of last year's Federal Heavyweight Turkey 3" #7's collecting dust on the back of a shelf at the local hardware store for $19.60 a box. Suddenly several friends each wanted a few boxes, and I quick grabbed 9 boxes. This saved me from digging into my 30 year old stock of nito-magnums.

I snagged some Winchester Longbeard XR's last week. Pretty much the only shotshells on the shelves and the only turkey loads. Was down to my last 3.5" turkey load so glad to find something.

Old thread I know, but circumstances change. Ammo prices are coming down a little and it’s getting a little easier to find. It’s not where it used to be, but nothing ever recovers completely IMO. At least it’s easier to find if you go online. I don’t know about shotgun shells or rifle ammo, pistol ammo was the only thing I looked for.

Finally good news on the ammo prices. After a recession things eventually return to normal, but it's always a new normal. Circumstances never return to the same plane as they were before, and the people who can adapt quicker will be ahead of the majority. For me, I think adapting to the covid shortages means less time spent shooting, and more time spent relaxing with friends.

Plus not all of them go off,, making them even more expensive. Years ago sometimes we burned 22 ammo just to hear the rifles crackle. Now the rimfire rifles are sitting quietly in the back corner of the gun cabinet. At some point firearm manufacturers are going to have to address the ongoing ammo shortages that started long before covid was even in the petri dishes in Wuhan or new gun sales are going to totally collapse. A local gun shop owner told me recently that gun sales have dropped off drastically this summer.

I just got 5 boxes of 308 for $1.50 a bang (federal 150gr soft points). I was worried about not having ammo for deer season... all good now. They was a little more than I normally pay....but nothing outlandish.
Most of what I am finding on the shelf and on line is off brand FMJ ammo - which is fine for having some fun. But not so good for putting big holes in Varmints...2 or 4 legged!

Do you think these higher rates of ammo usage are connected to the the current AR15 craze? Methinks there's a possibility that if everyone had a Ruger #1 there would be no ammo shortage.5 boxes? You taking out the whole herd?
About the fmj ammo; I was noticing that too, is it because that's what sells the best?

I’ve only put a couple magazines worth thru my AR-15. That took all of a few seconds.
. Need to buy more when the price drops a little further. I don’t shoot my deer guns much other than initial sight in. Check to see if it’s still on then don’t waste more shells. 1-2 is all I’ve done for years. Then hopefully only 1 or 2 for hunting. Not many used lately.

I think the reason the fmj sells best is that people get them for practice or just blowing off steam. I bought a new carry gun and 400 rounds of 9mm fmj simply because it’s cheaper. Don’t need to be blowing hollow points down range just to break a gun in. I never trust a semi-auto to carry until I run at lease 100 to 150 rounds through it. I’ll eventually get some self defense ammo to carry.

I bought 5 boxes...because it was all I was allowed to buy. You can NEVER have too much ammo. I have had a hard time finding hunting ammo so I jumped when I found it. Last thing I wanted was to be backed into a corner in November and have to use some "off brand" ammo or not have "enough". Now I got something I am comfortable using and I have enough to last me if I have to re-sight the gun and last a season or two...or three...
As for the FMJ ammo. Yes - it's great for punching holes in targets...but when it comes to hunting or self defense I want a soft point or hollow point of some sort. I want a big hole! I use M855 SS109 (poly tipped FMJ) in my AR.
Just as an FYI - Midway USA has IMI brand 5.56 x 45 ammo.... I use this brand and I have not had any issues with it... They have M193 (FMJ) for 54 cents a round...and M855 SS109 (poly tipped FMJ) for 56 cents a round. That is the cheapest I have found 5.56x45 available in any quantity. They have/had winchester brand as well at 70 cents a round....

I've never seen M855, ss109s with poly tips. Tips painted green are what I've seen. There are a lot of hunting options out there. I load Sierra Game Kings for my ARs and Mini-14. I watched as one of my hunting buddies shot a 190 Lb boar hog yesterday. He was using a hand loaded 60 grain Hornady V-Max. That hog hit the dirt and didn't move.

Ammo is getting easier to find, but some reloading stuff seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. I'm not hurting for anything and could make it for years on what I have in stock. But, there are a few IMR powders and a few Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets that I would go ahead and stock up on if I ran up on them.

I picked up 2 boxes of Federal powershok 180 grain.300 WSM at a little country store for $58.80. This stuff is out of stock nationwide, and it's the factory load my Sako Tecomate prefers.
