Electric fence take down

For those of you that use an electric fence, can you describe your take down strategy? Do you roll the wire back up on a spool? This is proving to be a ton of work for the hottest part of the year, here in the Deep South.

If I were to, I would get one of those extension cord reels that store extension cords when not in use. Seems like that would be pretty easy (as if easy were to be had when it’s 99*)

This is what I do. the reels work and are not expensive. Picked mine up at Lowes. I wait till winter to pull my post. they come out easier after the ground has frozen a few times. I pull my line through the eyelets right onto the reels. two people make for not too bad of job.

The ones I have will fit 1 acre of strand per spool, so 3 spools hold all 3 of the wires/tape for an acre.
DO NOT try to just roll up the wire around your arm like a clothesline. It will be a huge mess when you try to install the fence next year.
I use a Gallagher system (Gallagher fiberglass posts and cotter-pin type retainers) and I learned that its a lot easier to install and remove the wire if I just do a wrap AROUND each pin instead of going thru each pin. That also allows pins to be left in each post so next year, it's one less thing to deal with.
